Radio Center, County of Monroe, NY #2

I have bought a CB radio, and was wondering if there is anyway to hear the local police and fire?

NO,i own 2 cb's and 2 scanners,1 is a portable scanner and the other scanner is a desktop.you can pick a good scanner up off of amazon.com for about $100 or less.there is no way to pick the frequencies on the cb.go to radioreference.com to get your local hometown frequncies.

Is all police ems and fire frequencies are going digital on the police scanners?
Radio Center, County of Monroe, NY #3

I need help is Oglethorpe county SD EMS and FD will they stop using analog transmissions and use digital encrypted frequencies our not

There is absolutely NO REQUIREMENT to go digital.

There IS A REQUIREMENT to meet spectrum spacing requirements or NARROWBANDING in 2013.

Digital makes it easier to achieve these bandwidth requirements. BUT analog voice can be done in a narrowband format as well. Its all up to the manufacturers.

As for a particular area thats up to each area if they go digital and then add encryption on top of that. Unfortunately once an area goes digital its rather painless to add encryption options quickly and cheaply.

I have a Pro-97 scanner and want to enter the police/EMS/Fire frequencies into the scanner. But when I look?
Radio Center, County of Monroe, NY #1

at radio reference or other websites, I do not know what I need to enter into the scanner (trunking part).

I want to listen to Indianapolis police southwest district, Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) Station 13, 3, and 15 with IFD Battalion 13 and 14 and finally Indiana State Police District 52.

I know I can use the software, but I have to by the adapter.

Follow this online manual

You have to program a bank with the trunking frequencies then you program a scan list to scan the talkgroups you want.

Multi step process for trunking versus older convetional systems like 155.250 for police, 154.205 for fire etc..

Can you still use Scanners in the US????

In the UK all Police and Emergency Services now use secure encrypted radio frequencies such as the Airwaves Tetra system by Motorolla (TEA2), which encrypts all radio comunications thereby making the use of police scanners increasingly pointless.

The system is not only digital, but encrypted as well, which poses considerable problems to anyone wishing to monitor the transmissions. For a start you would need a scanner that is capable of processing the digitally modulated signal (which doesn't exist at this time), and then you would need to crack the encryption.

Even if a TETRA scanner was available you would still have to contend with the encryption used by the system. Assuming that the police make use of the full use of this encryption a TETRA scanner would be no more useful that a normal analogue scanner - as it would not produce any voice traffic. It is almost certain that a decoder will never be available (as the encryption is one of the systems major selling points), but if it did the potential number of encryption keys is almost infinite, and they could be changed many times every hour if needed.

  • So...I have all the standard quot;easyquot; frequencies... - The ...

Like the standard police and fire. But I noticed when I listened to a Fire page yesterday, the dispatcher advised..."you will be on Tac 1" (At least, I assume it was Tac) I'm assuming the dispatcher is relaying the channel the fire crews will use for fireground communication. I would really like to program that frequency in, since I think that would be the truly exciting communication. I don't see any Tac 1 frequencies listed in the Database for my city. So..my question is, how do I find those frequencies? I am a true novice to scanning, but am a feed provider. I want to give any listeners to my feed the best experience I can....so, I will be very grateful for any help I can...
