Do we need an radio and electronics section here?

Would anyone here find useful an HAM RADIO electronics section?
As a radio ham for many years, I'm saddened that the hobby has waned to the point that few youngsters are picking up the skills required to build, test and repair their electronic devices, including making (building) transmitting and receiving gear.

I am happy to give any assistance (should it be asked for), including charts of inductance to resonant frequency, and all manner of things.

Kind regards
Dr Antony
Pray tell, PG, Why not??

I am all for helping young ones (and the not so young) with their ham radio electronics projects and problems.

I tutor a few people from time to time and work with the local ham radio league to promote ham radio to young people.

Currently I am working on a special event station (to be held next summer) project aimed at generating public awareness and to help introduce new ones to the hobby with a hands on introduction at the special event station.

It is likely to be a big event which will be covered in the media by the biggest news papers and TV stations in the country.

But here.....
Hmm , while well intended the problem with a public question and answer forum is that anyone can ask and anyone can give answers.

This SHOULD work well , but it doesn't.

Personally , I don't want to help CB'ers set up their illegal linear amplifiers , and also , I wouldn't want to see wrong or deliberately misleading answers given to real questions.

With so many time wasters , armchair expert opinion givers , and 10 year olds playing games on here its not really the venue for serious question and answers., although Yahoo would probably disagree on that point.

Personally , I don't take advice from anyone that would rather remain anonymous online just as I wouldn't do in real life.

It allows the dodgy idiots a stand for them to exercise their free speech when really they should be quiet.

Modern radio equipment is pretty incredible. So many features in ever increasingly smaller packages. I enjoy using the modern rigs, and have several on my wish list, but nothing beats the style and warmth of the old radios. While I only have a couple of beloved boat anchors on the amateur radio side, I have several broadcast radios that I’ve casually collected over the years. Not a huge collection…just as well as space to display these beauties is very limited. It all started about 1986 when I picked up a beautiful Westinghouse, circa 1933, at a local (non-ham) flea market. Over the next couple of decades, the collection has grown slowly. I love the look of the old wood radios, the art-deco styling of radios from the 30s and 40s, the sleek look of the Bakelite radios. These radios have personality, character, style, even sexiness. Okay maybe I’m getting a little carried away on that last one, but they sure look sweet compared with those boom boxes of today.
