hand held radio

about 15 years ago i purchased a uniden pro340xl hand held cb radio. this was before the advent of nimh AA batteries. the radio was designed with a charging port so that it could charge AA nicad batteries in about 12 hours. my question is can use the radio to charge AA nimh batteries or will it cause problems ie blowing up or catching fire?

Like listening to ATC, and the pilots on approach if you are a plane spotter and photographing the planes or video taping them at heathrow since I live in London.

Perfectly legal to listen. It's all over public airwaves. Transmitting on those frequencies and interfering with air traffic communication is illegal - that'll get you in a load of trouble.

Taking pictures/videos is fine as long as you are in a public, unrestricted area. Many airports forbid you from loitering in the runway approach area. I don't know what Heathrow's specific policies are.

I recently purchased a Cobra marine hand held radio. When I got it home, I realized it does not have a charger. Now, my question is, if I was to put the 6 AA batteries into it, how long of a charge am I going to have on those batteries. Moderate use. I need it to last over a weekend of hunting. Anyone have any experience with hand held radios using batteries? I would assume 2-way radios are pretty much the same for battery usage.

6 AA batteries should last you up to 3 days of moderate use....just put you a extra 6 in your backpack just in case
