I know that it is meant to be used in a car, but I would like to use it as a home-base style cb radio in my home. What kind of power adapter would I need? What else do I need to do/get to use this as a home-base cb radio in my home?
You will need a base station antenna and a proper power supply. Typically a 2.5 amp 12 volt power supply will do the job. Mobiles work fine as home stations.
Just got this in. Testing it out in the city. Took a bike ride to about 1.5 mile and it still work and can still communicate. Will test it out ...

Yes... The midland 1001z is a CB radio... it will work, just plug the antenna in the back of the radio, put the antenna on the center of your roof, and their ya go.... No problem with that set up except it extreamly cheap.
although cheap is not a problem.. cuz its cheap... it will play a part in how well your setup performs... you wont get out as well as you would if you spent a little more money and got better antennas or radios.
