I'm thinking of getting one to keep in touch with my family on long shopping excursions and need a handheld, fairly cheap CB. Any help is appreciated.
I mean a HANDHELD CB radio. I have tried FRS radios and the range is very limited within busy stores and parking lots because of the obstruction. The short Rubber Duck antenna would work well would it not?
A CB radio is probably not the best choice for the use you have stated. For starters, the antenna on a CB is very long. You would have to extend it every time you wanted to use it, then push it back down so it wouldn't be a hazard.
Try the FRS radios. They are small, easy to use, and because of the frequency range have a nice compact antenna and are cheap.
