midland cb

does anyone use the cb radio in the Kent area? Am I not receiving anything because I need a better aerial? help! it wasnt like this when I used a cb in the 80's

With the advent of cell phones, the use of CB's has dropped dramatically, the best you can do to get other enthusiasts is to be on at the right time and use the correct equipment, sometimes even the cheapest matched equipment can get you people from many upon many miles away. Your best bet is to try reaching people at dusk or late night when the atmosphere reflects radio waves more readily and there is less solar flare interference.

but will it sound louder if i hook up two speakers using a standard 3.5 audio jack splitter or will it sound just as loud just having one speaker hooked up?

You'll have the same power driving them so I doubt you'll be able to tell any difference between 1 speaker or 2.

I do not have an antenna or any chords, but i do have a mic. The modle is 13-898B. I have no clue how to get it working. I got it from a friend and it is really old. Please help. I wouldn't like to spend alot of money on it and I live out in the country.

dont worry, you dont need to spend any money on your radio, you just need to spend a little on the antenna and the coax to the antenna, whats good about some of the older radios is the fcc wasnt as strict exactly, and a lot of them are a little more powerful than 4watts. but either way, you have a radioshack near you? if so you need to go there and get an antenna radioshack normally carries a nice magnet mount with the attached coax for 20 something bucks....
either way your gonna have to spend money on an antenna and as crappy as some radioshack stuff is that antenna, i used to use before i moved onto my dual wilsons but that thing works awesome. thats pretty much it, it will need to be tuned, but look it up on the internet how to tune it, see if anyone you know has a swr meter you should hve one, but with the radioshack antenna im talking about ive never seen it be dangerously high outa the box, but it all changes depending on the car is on, you will probably be safe with it though.


this is of course assuming the radio works.


AAHH!! i just looked up the model, and its a base station.... you can look up online how to turn a mobile antenna into a base station antenna, or your gonna spend a decent amount of money on the antenna. :-/ if you are look at the antron 99 its a cheap decent antenna.

That is a nice radio.

You will need to get a 120 volt ac power cord and an antenna for it to work.

Which power cord will depend on the shape of the 120 vac socket on the back of the radio.

Any CB antenna will work, although a base station antenna will work best:

my question is how do i tune the antenna? is it really that important?

i plan to purchase an swr meter to tune it but is it really gonna make a difference or should i just save my money on buying that meter?

buy the meter or borrow one from someone and get that antenna tuned to 1.5 or less because if you don't you can burn the finals out in the radio plus you won't get out far and hear good with a high SWR.
