I just bought a midland walkie talkie and they are 30 mile range , just tryed them outside and the most they work are 2miles , the setting are on high . and the battery and the best u can get
what shall i do

The range you experience is normal. Your radios are not defective.

Does anyone know what it means to turn the VOX on/off on these radios?

VOX, voice operated switch, causes the radio to transmit when you talk. Unfortumately, it also causes the radio to transmit whenever there is any noise at all. Very annoying to other people.

My suggestion: Leave it Off and just press the PTT button when you want to talk.

I have had these walkie talkies for two years now and just recently they don't work. when i talk into them all that comes out the other walkie talkie is a gargled noise. you can tell that someone is trying to speak but you can't tell what they are saying. It can't be a distance problem because im trying to test these is separate rooms. They have a 16 mile range so this shouldn't effect it.

Just a guess here, but the Midland LXT-330 had a feature called a voice-scrambler built into it. The feature distorted the audio of the incoming call. In order to eliminate the distortion, you would need to ensure that each channel is set to the same voice-scrambler code.

It was just another way to make it harder for someone to listen in on your conversations, but certainly not impossible.

Maybe the easiest test for this would be to reset the radios back to the manufacturer's defaults.

I have a midland walkie talkie and i bought it from Gander Mountain. I am wondering what some of the settings do. under the menu button it has the channel change then it has the option of channel # with off, ctcss and dcs. then channal and Pr. Then Ch. with of and VOX flashing in the corner. Then rb with options of off, and on. And Ca where you can chose a number. And finally there is Ub with an on and an off. I know that is confusing to read but anyone know what any of them mean?
Gander Mountain put the product in their own packaging and there was not manual included.

Read the manual. That is what it is for.
