What would be the best Scanner control/program software for a RS PRO-97 scanner?
I wll be using Windows XP Home Operation system.
Try contacting either Windows or the maker of the scanner and ask them.
radioshack pro-2050 desktop scanner. 300 channel. 30mhz-1300mhz range with exclusions. radioshack pro-97 handheld rechargeable scanner. 1000 ...
at radio reference or other websites, I do not know what I need to enter into the scanner (trunking part).
I want to listen to Indianapolis police southwest district, Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) Station 13, 3, and 15 with IFD Battalion 13 and 14 and finally Indiana State Police District 52.
I know I can use the software, but I have to by the adapter.
Follow this online manual
http://myweb.cableone.net/marksscanners/ 97/97.html#programming_trunking_systems< br />
You have to program a bank with the trunking frequencies then you program a scan list to scan the talkgroups you want.
Multi step process for trunking versus older convetional systems like 155.250 for police, 154.205 for fire etc..

I've got the manual, just cant understand it, I have the trunking codes, but they all contradict eachother, cant listen to a solid conversation, cant find dispatch. I live in Charlotte North carolina. I'd like some options
I'm in Charlotte as well and I have several Pro 94s that I use. I'm not familiar with the Pro 97 but from what you are saying it sounds like you have the frequencies in but are not actually trunking. If you get the scanner to trunk when there is traffic an id number will pop up. For example the Charlotte Fire Dept group id is 16432, they have several talk groups that they designate a B-G. Most of these group ids are 5 digits starting with 16. The police have several actual dispatch channels. Many of these are four digit numbers starting with 8, medic is 6448, county fire is 7248. On the police channels usally there are 1-2 divisions on each channel. Swat has its own channel and some of the other special groups do too. The group id s are readily available on line.
My advice would be to make sure you have the scanner programmed to trunk track the entered frequencies and then enter the group ids once it's scanning properly. My experience with Radio Shack is that they dont know much about scanners. You may be able to get them to program it to trunk track scan but you should enter the group ids yourself depending on what you want to scan.
Good luck and hope this helps.
Try radioreference.com for the group ids.

a half of a second or less. why are the here? for example.. when i hear the background noise on a call i here sssssss *p* ssssss
the p stands for the sound the interuption makes
You have a priority channel set. When receiving a non-priority channel the scanner will check the priority channel to see if it is transmitting. If so, it will switch to that channel over all others. The slight interruption is when the scanner leaves the channel it is on to check the priority. It looses the audio from that channel. There should be a priority switch on the scanner. Just disengage it for interruption free reception on all channels.
Allllllright. I just received this scanner and I have been trying since about 8 p.m. to figure everything out and what not and just need to see if any of you can help me out try to put some frequencies in.
I live in a city where EVERYTHING is trunked. I found a really good site that has everything I need but I just don't get the setup they have. The site is www.scanohio.com and under "Hancock County". It has everything listed but I am not sure what to input into the scanner.
Can ANYONE help???
Thanks..
You first need to a pick a bank, setup for Motorola Trunking Mode, then program in the frequencies for the trunked system.
Thats these:
866.1250
866.4875
867.1625
867.6125
868.6875
Then you need to program a scan list in to the memory to follow the talkgroups for each user you want to monitor.
Example 624 for Police, 656 Police, 336 for Fire Dispatch etc..
You need to equate the "talkgroups" to the frequency every one used to have their own or share with a couple of other groups.
The other channels listed you need to program into a seperate bank(s) just like you did with the older non trunking scanners.
Trunked systems have two steps:
Program all the frequencies that every one shares in
Prorgam the talkgroups you want for each user
You won't be able to listen to OSP as they use the MARCS system and it requires a digital capable scanner which the 97 is not able to handle.

Radio Shack Pro-97 Scanner - The RadioReference.com Forums
The PRO-97 can not be upgraded. They made some slight changes to the design and the new model is PRO-164 ( http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Pro-164 ) or the GRE PSR-300. I note that some rebanded systems can be tracked with the PRO-97, it totally depends on the specific frequencies being used by the agency you want to monitor.
