Does anyone know of an fm radio that is really small possibly wireless, like an earpiece and a transmitter. I want to have something to do in school, I get bored easily.
Radio Shack makes one that is small and looks like a small spring clip/carabiner. It operates off of small watch style batteries and is VERY compact.
Also, many SanDisk Sansa series MP3 players have FM tuners built in, however these may be too large for the environment you need to use it in.

Im making a crystal radio and the instructions call for a telephone reciever and cord used to connect. I know some simple radio applications use the piezo earpice and figured it could be used here as well. Are there any problems with this?
Yes, the thing to consider with a crystal radio is that it produces a very small audio signal so the earpiece needs to be very sensitive.
Wired earphones will usually amplify the radiation into the ear as they can act as an antenna, directing the RF transmission into your ear! The thing is that we'll be seeing more and more reports as time goes on and the true effects start to materialise as mobile phones have only started being used extensively in the last 8 or so years. It will take time for any definitive effects to become apparent. (typically 10 - 15 years).
The fact is that radio frequency (RF) transmissions are dangerous.
To limit the possible adverse effects mobile phones may have I would suggest that anyone concerned about their use should;
- Limit the prolonged use of mobiles to under a couple of minutes at a time.
- Use the phone in handsfree speaker mode.
- Avoid using the phone in a confined space (such as in the car or building) as this causes the phone to radiate at the higher power levels to get a signal out.
