is there a solar charger i could charge my garmin rino 530 with while backpacking?
Preparing For Hurricane Ike

im going on a few long trips later this year. Virginia AT and Philmont. and am looking to not lug around a ton of batteries.

The Solio Classic solar charger costs $99.95 http://www.rei.com/product/764524
Read the reviews first. It requires a lot of direct sunlight (solar, duh), and no one mentioned attaching it to a backpack, though at 5.8 ounces I'm sure it's doable.

Have you considered hand crank power? http://www.thetravelinsider.info/roadwar riorcontent/sidewinder.htm

Or mini wind-mill power? http://www.motherearthnews.com/Alternati ve-Energy/1993-06-01/A-Wind-Powered-Ener gy-Charger.aspx
