Can the same antennae be used for an Am/Fm/ Stereo as a weather radio on a boat at the same time?

(I'm assuming your VHF/weather radio will have transmit capability as well.)

Yes it can, but the caveat here is that you require a switch, similar to:
http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path =-1|344|295760|299311&id=70626
(This one is manufactured by Shakespeare)
to prevent blowing up your stereo.

As well, performance of your marine VHF will unlikely be quite as good as not having the switch installed. Separate antennas are the optimum solution of course, but if space is an issue, the single antenna and switch may provide an acceptable compromise.

Good Luck!

Does anyone know where in Canada you can buy a Canadian weather radio?

I am looking for a weather radio. I am looking for somewhere in canada like a retail store or a online store that takes Paypall that sells the kind that get the Canadian weather channels. I work security and it is my responsiblity to monitor the weather when it gets bad and I want to get a radio with batary backup and SAME technoligy so I can hear an alert when the warning is for my area and not have to monitor it all night or day when the weather gets bad. I had to cancel my credit cards after a identity theft incedent so I am a little weary of using them online again which is why I want to go paypall or instore.
Thank you for your help.

I got one at Radio Shack years ago, now The Source.
Or try any of the electronic stores, like Circuit City.

Does the weather service still broadcast area-specific SAME warnings?

I got a Oregon Scientific weather radio for Christmas. I followed all of the instructions for setting it up to receive all warnings, watches and statements for several of the counties around me, using the S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding) codes. With the radio in "notify" mode, I've yet to receive any alerts, not even the Wednesday test message I have read about. Do they no longer send out these signals?

Yes, the SAME codes should work. However, NOAA All-Hazards radio broadcast signals are not very strong when compared to your normal AM or FM commercial radio station. If you are not able to pick up a good signal from your radio, the SAME warnings may not activate. Find out which local National Weather Service office is responsible for your area of interest and contact them for help. You can go to your local NWS office web page and contact the webmaster for help. The following link will take you to your local NWS office web page.
