If i put a telescopic whip antenna on top of a pole outside the house and connect it to my scanner with coax is it going to be any use ?
It will restrict what you will recieve. Go to Radio Shack and pick a broad spectrum ant. for a scanner. You will have better reception with that ant.. There are cheap.... Good Luck...
Build this easy scanner or ham radio antenna out of a set of rabbit ears from a old TV set. Works fine..
I want to install my scanner into my truck. My question is if i can use the existing radio antenna on my truck as the scanner antenna as well. Can i just get a Y adapter and have one go into the radio and then adapt one to go into the scanner? If yes, would I be able to use them both at the same time? My goal is to not have a big antenna showing all the time. I am open to other suggestions as well.
the answer is yes & no
it is do able but you'll limit the area doing it that way
heres something that will help in-dish antenna booster hook one up to ur scanner u can also hook it in to the out going antenna & have a good but hiden scanner. sometime it can mess up radio single tho not if it does just get another booster & hook ur radio in to it which will work great

When installing a frequency scanner in a car, can I use a Y antenna adapter so I can use the stock radio antenna or would that cause interference? I would only be using one at a time (either the scanner or radio). I just don't want 2 antennas if i don't have to. Thanks.
yes you can use a Y adapter splitter on a scanner. as long as your not transmitting, it'll be fine. I used a splitter for years in my truck.
I have a scanner discone type radio antenna i want to install and to blend in with the surroundings i was going to paint it ! if i use lead free paint will it be ok ?
should be fine
I have bought a telescopic antenna for my scanner. I am interested in listening to the VHF frequency 130 MHZ. I can extend my antenna upto nearly two meters, but for this frequency, what will be the optimum length of extension ?
Optimum is a quarter wavelength for a whip aerial.
Wavelength (metres) = 3 x 10^8 divided by Freq (Hz)
i.e. 3 x 10^8 div by 130 x 10^6 = 2.3 metres
A quarter wavelength for 130MHz is thus 0.577 metres.

Spider Base Station Scanner Antenna ? Anyone have this
I bought this antenna about 7 months ago. how I have it mounted on a tripod antenna right next to another j-pole(vhf-hi) antenna. I use the spider as my air band/uhf. I have tried to use it to monitor my VHF- hi digital stuff, no joy on that. It is very little in space it takes up and you really can not notice it on the roof. depends on what and where you are listening too. I am out in a rural area about 20 miles from all the uhf towers I listen too. On the air band I pick up stuff around 50-75 miles away that just depends on the day. Depends on how hi the jets are. I can not pick up ground stuff
just approach,...
