What is the purpose of a UHF repeater at airports.
I live in york and my local airport is Leeds bradford (LBIA) Because im 25 miles from the airport getting atc from the airport is very slim but i can get leeds tower on 455.6125nfm Perfect but on 123.0am i get nothing why is this ?what is the benefit for the airport to use this repeater thanks
Repeaters allow for the signal to be re transmitted over obstructions such as hills or buildings( basically when the line of sight is inturepted). Maybe there are surronding mountains between you and the airport?
www.radiofunstuff.com Since the UHF ham radio repeater was taken down for some maintenance, I thought I would take a short video clip for others ...
For commercial or business band, the separation is 5 MHz. The repeater typically transmits on the low frequency, example 450.5000 MHz and receives on the high frequency, 455.5000 MHz. Of course the field radios do the opposite.
I think ham radios use the same separation.
My town's police department uses a conventional UHF radio system. How can I tell if they use a repeater and what the input/output frequencies are? Here is the information:
Call sign: WNVG442
http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearc h/license.jsp?licKey=1228586
is the FCC license page.
They use a simplex system. If you follow your link and click on the frequency tab, it lists the two frequency your town is authorized to use. It only has one frequency for each system, 453.5250 and 453.8500 MHz. A repeater would show two frequencies 5 MHz apart. 453.525 and 458.525 would be a repeater pair. BTW, most police UHF frequencies are in the 460 and 465 area. Such as 460.3000 and 465.3000 for a repeater pair. The 453 frequencies are considered local government, but police are also considered local government and qualify to use them.

a radio repeater will cost more like $2000. it is a much more sophisticated device than a simple handheld. Also unlike low cost FRS handhelds, a repeater will require licensing and frequency coordination (so it does not interfer with other repeaters). Generally a group of people share the cost and use of a repeater.
This question is is in refence to broadcasting from a uhf and vhf tower that I inherited.
a repeater picks up a broadcast signal and re-broadcasts it. So a commercial repeater business would extend the reach of uhf/vhf signals to outlying areas (most likely).
Is this the best western repeater directory on the #39;Net?
I was hoping that the ARRL TravelPlus application would be worth purchasing, but it get's very bad press on eham. I don't know why it would be so difficult for the ARRL or someone to put out a comprehensive repeater list in CSV format that also included city, county, and state so that it would be easy to import into any radio programming software. I may still purchase the TravelPlus software...
