The manual says to use 16 ohm speakers when using 2 pairs of speakers, but I already have a 8 ohm pair of pioneer speaker. Could I just use a pair of 16 ohm speakers with those? The reciever is a 210 watt sherwood rx-4109.
You can use them but they won't be used to their full capacity.
Nothing bad will happen..

I got these 2 solid oak pioneer boxes from a friend with good crossovers still. I'm hooking them into one of my extra home theatre systems. It's hard to find 8 ohm speakers so I bought 2 4 ohm 12's for these boxes. I don't want to run a series to get 8 ohms cause i'd have 2 12's on 1 channel. Can you do something like add a resister to the positive line or something to get an 8 ohm resistance.
you can put in serie with each speaker a 4 ohm resistor to get 8 ohm (4+4). Just remember that this resistor burns half of the power given by the amplifier (-3dB)

I have wired up two pairs of 8 ohm speakers in parallel giving me 4 ohms is this ok or have I made a problem for myself to match an amp.
Are 4 ohm amps easy to get? Any recommendations.
it depends on how much power you need. most amps will have no problem with a 4 ohm load, but the catch is they will not produce their "rated" output power. For example, a 40 watt rated amp might only develop 30 watts, or 15 watts per speaker instead of the 20 watts per speaker. for listening in a room this is plenty adequate. For dance halls and auditoriums, speaker and power management requires better matching for optimum performance.
It is a bass cabinet that has 2 10" 8 ohm speakers in it. Right now the bass is wired for a total of a 4 ohm load and i want to increase the total impedance. I heard something about a serial-parallel (together) connection that might keep the impedance of the speakers the same?? If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, that would be great.
get a 2:1 audio-freq transformer and coneect them in series
with
source [1:2] load
or parallel
source [2:1] load
OR
get 2- 8ohm resistors
(speaker A + 8-ohm) parallel with (speaker B + 8 ohm)
or 1 4-ohm resistor
(speaker A parallel speaker B) series with 4-ohm
I read that I could wire a resistor in series with the speaker to bring up the impedance to 8 ohms. What would 5 ohm resistors wired in series do for the system? Would it be better to wire two 3 ohm speakers in series for each channel. This would only be 6 ohm resistance. The sony speakers are nice and I would hate to not be able to use them. Any suggestions?
Unfotunately no. You will need an amplifier or receiver that will double down as the impedance is cut in half. If the amp or receiver can double it's power from 8 Ohms to 4 Ohms, you should be okay, driving a 3-Ohm speaker system.
