I want to get an MTX 4004 - 4 Channel amp to power dual 10 inch Sledgehammer subs...would I be better of with a 2 channel or a mono amp instead? Should I go with this model or another? Thanks.
I dont think you can even use a bridged 4 channel or 2 channel amp with that sub i believe there is only one speaker terminal.
i personaly would go with a class d mono amp, they take lets power to put out the same watts, they run cooler and cost less per watt.. MTX is a good choice though.
look at the links you sub is 600 watts RMS @ 2 ohm, and so is the amp. perfect match.

im looking in to buying this mono amp its a mtx thunder(model tc3001) on ebay its brand new with 1 year warranty for $98.35 plus shipping it will be about $128 if you think the price is to high tell me and if you got a website with better and lower deals let me know please thank you.
They are alright... nothing to drool over tho.
on a 1 to 10 scale I would give um a 6 (i am picky so 6 is pretty good).
I have to 600 watt model in the girls car so yea I would get it...
Just remember MTX amps are more picky when it comes to voltage then most amps on the market.... they will shut down right away if you don't feed them enough.
Good Luck

Alright, so I have 2 MTX 3401 amplifiers hooked up to a Stinger capacitor, running 2 MTX 7500 subwoofers independently. I have a professional bi-amplifier wiring kit installed correctly, including proper ground and positive splits, and a voltage read out. The problem is sometimes one of the amplifiers drops out after working only a little bit, even if I just started the car. It recently started to do this when it got cold out, so I dont know if that has anything to do with it. The amplifier is bolted to plastic, so no grounding issues, and have ran unaltered for 2 years prior to this. The voltage stays at a steady 14V with the car running, so power starvation is not a problem. Sometimes the amp will shut down, then immediately kick back on, others I leave overnight and it works in the morning. Any ideas as to why my amp keeps shutting off?
your gain (input sensitivity setting) is too high, its used to maximize clean signal strength from your amp, not volume or power
Set the input sensitivity controls of your amplifier to their minimum level (counter clockwise).
Put in a CD and turn the receiver's volume control up (you might have to raise the amp's gain just a bit to hear the music).
When you hear distortion, stop. Turn the volume down until it disappears. As much signal as possible is passing from the receiver to the amp. This maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio, and leaves your system less prone to engine noise problems. Keep the volume setting here.
Now turn the gain controls on the amplifier up until it's as loud as you'll play it. If you hear distortion, slightly decrease the gain settings.
Now you've optimized the amp's output with the receiver's volume set near maximum. You can turn the volume almost all the way up and not damage your speakers or amplify distortion. If you're hooking up a subwoofer, a test disc (or bass-heavy CD) is helpful for making final adjustments
