I have a PSU which is 22A on the 12v rail. My car amp is 500w max and has a 30A rating. Do i need want the PSU number of amps to be greater or smaller than my car amps rating? Can I use the PSU i have now, or do I need a more powerful one?
You need more power. The power supply will need to handle at least 30A, even more would be better. You can never have too much available current but too little will burn something up.

ok, im trying to run a small car amp off an old 12v pc power supply. the only part im having trouble with is how to acivate the remote trigger to turn on the amp.
can someone help me please??
thanks
i tried that already
its a pretty tiny amp. like 150 ish rms or so i think
Normally The wire that turns on the amp comes from the Deck.
If you do not have one, Run a small wire to it from the battery with a fuse (prolly a 5 or a 10), and install a switch in the wire to turn the amp on and off.

What voltage is the amp? The car is 12 volts. It may be possible to get a converter since some cars now have a 110 outlet in them. that could end up being more expensive than you bargained for. Rock on!
where is the best place to mount a car amp in the trunk so that it doesn't get stolen? and also let some air get to it. i have a small kicker 350w amp and need a good place to mount it in a 1987 toyota camry.
-thanks
