I can I deduct a dvd player from my auto taxes if I use mileage to determine my taxes?

I own a Town car that I drive for a company. I use the mileage to dictate my taxes because I put several miles on the car and it far out weighs the itemized amount. I am wondering that if I put a dvd player in the car can I itemize that seperately since it is not actually part of maintenance or depreciation; or would that simply be trying to double dip?

No, unless you want an audit. Even with an audit, no.

You would have a hard time convincing an auditor that is was "necessary" as a business expense. It is in a separate category of equipment called "listed property," which needs additional documentation of its "business use" as opposed to its "personal use." If you, for example, entertain customers in your car with the DVD, you need to document personal use of the DVD versus entertaining customers, etc. and take the business use percentage. You would need a log book, to keep record of all the times you used the DVD, and for business, what business discussions were made. And they still probably would balk.

If I burn an .avi file to a dvd-r, will a region 1 dvd player auto read and play it?

DL'd a movie and was wondering if .avi is the correct format that needs to be for a dvd player to autoread...

it depends on the player ...the latest ones are divx certified up to version6 i do believe ... this should play all the latest divx and xvid avi type files without converting .... if u get them in 700MB size u can put 5 or 6 on one regular 4.7DVD its great :)
... it wont matter on the region ... region is protection thats actually a part of a dvd ... an avi "data burn" is going to be region free.

  • Is DIY Death For Auto DVD Player Resellers?

If a DIY fan tries to install a car DVD player they bought from an online reseller and then the item doesn’t work because of something the DIY fan did wrong who gets the blame?

The answer is often the retailer because, well, the customer is always right.  It is this mentality that has caused an awful lot of heartache and a great deal of damage to many car DVD resellers dealing with DIY fanatics.

So why do customers insist on doing DIY and what can you do as a reseller to turn them into a reputation asset instead of a liability?

In many instances DIY never posed much of a threat to auto DVD player resellers. That’s because majority of the people in America, or for anywhere else for that matter just don’t have the time to do it themselves.
