Car DVD Players Answers
charger separate yesterday. It is very confusing to me. On the side of the dvd player where I plug it in to charge it through the plug in the wall, it says DC IN 9-12V and under that it has a - sign inside a circle, with a line going to just a dot then the line continuing to another circle with a + inside of it. Now on the car charger I bought it has multi plugs and there is one that fits. On the part that plugs into the lighter it has a voltage selector and a polarity selector. On the voltage selector, do I put it on 9v or 12v (it starts at 3v and goes up to 12v), and on the polarity selector do I chose tip minus or tip plus? I have tried so many different ways in the car and I can't get it to work. I plugged the dvd player in the house charger and it works fine. I just don't know what settings to put this thing on.
The instructions say:
1. Set the voltage selector to match the required voltage for your electronic equipment
2. Determine the polarity (+ or -) of the unit.
The polarity can be found on the unit or in the owner’s manual.
3. Match polarity markings of the electronic device to the polarity switch on the unit.
4. Select the proper adapter and plug it into the DC input jack on the equipment
5. Plug DC adapter into cigarette lighter/power port.
Set to 12V Dc - this is the voltage of an auto battery
you use tip +
you may run into a problem because of what you tried earlier.... "I have tried so many different ways in the car and I can't get it to work" Since you tried already at wrong settings that could of affected the device. Although if you say it still works in the house on the ac adapter then still should be ok.

I recently lost the charger for my DVD player, and the in-car charger broke, so now there's no way for me to use it. Does anyone know how I could get a new one, its acoustic solutions and 7" I think. I tried the website, but for some reason it wasn't working.
PJ's answer is Ok if you know electronics.
But judging by the fact that you asked the question, I'm guessing you don't know electronics. So here's the rest of the answer PJ left out:
Take your DVD player (and any user manual you might have for it) to Radio Shack. Tell them you need a new charger module. They should be able to match up your DVD to one of their off-the-shelf generic modules. They may even be able to supply you with one that will work off the car cigarette lighter as well.
You need to bring in the DVD player so that they can match the connector. You need the manual so they know what voltage\current rating the module should supply.
Meets or exceeds all safety requirements

Save your battery power while Rapidly Charging the battery
Smart FUSE inside for sudden power surge protection
Smart IC chip protects battery from being damage
Where can I find a wall adapter to charge it? Is the V the same?
Radio Shack is a good place to look for DC power supplies. A 9.5v supply would be best but if that is not available then a 9v one will probably work just fine.
Bring the DVD player to the store and make sure that the connector on the wall power supply fits the connector on the player. Also, note that the connector has an inside and an outside lead. Be sure to check that the polarity (whether + is on the inside or outside lead) of the DVD player and the power supply connector match. This should be marked on the DVD player near the power connector and on the main part of the wall power supply. Do not connect the wrong polarity because it might damage the DVD player.
there are 12.volt in-car chargers that states for portable dvd's, but my dvd states on it's battery pack and on the back that it is DC IN 9 VOLT?? so does this mean i can't buy the portable in-car chargers that are 12 volts? will i blow it up?? or what?
if its battery powered and the rating plate says its 9 volt then only connect it up to a 9 volt supply. It may work with a 12v supply (after all its not that over voltage.. but the problem is that car electrics are nominally 12v, but often run higher (around 14volt to charge batteries, and drop below 12 volt if the battery is low on power (discharged or you are using a lot of current eg trying to start the engine)
however voltage isnt the olny issue.. you alos need to make sure that the current is appropriate for the device... check the rating plate for the DVD player it should clearly say what power input and what curent it needs. Current is usually expressed as xah or xMa... eg 1500Ma..... which means 1500 milli amp hours (or 1.5 amp hours). given that you say the player is currently battery powered (im guessing then it must use PP9 batteries so it can't draw that much current
however all is not lost, you can buy leads that plug into a car accessory socket and they include a bit of electronics that converts the incoming power to what you want... try maplin. I have one from Maplin.. a Uniross "UNI15/M". which will provide regualted power for a range of power outputs. I think it cost about £10
