car dvd player installation

The car is a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix stock HU w/o the monsoon system and the DVD player is a Pioneer AVIC- D3

You need a dash kit and a pair of wiring harnesses from any local shop that sells car stereo equipment. The big guys like Best Buy and Circuit City will be cheaper and you should be able to get all the parts you need for around $30 or so.

Even though, you dont have the monsoon system, some Pontiacs are still grounded through a bolt on the back of the stereo instead of through the wiring harness. If you ask really nicely, they might be able to print out the wiring diagrams and dash removal instructions for your car.
Also, dont be dumb and let someone tell you to skip the aftermarket harness and hardwire the stereo, if it's an '04, cutting of the OEM harness will void your warranty. And if you leave frayed or cut wires in the dash, you might accidentally deploy the airbag.

I have put in a number of radios into cars but this dvd player i hooked up for my friend doesn't seem to fit int the car.

It's a indash lcd touchsceen one. And there are alot of wires that i was able to tuck away fine but the dash doesn't seem to have enough room front to back to fully insert the head unit. I think it's about an inch and a half shy of depth.

The car is an 06 cobalt

Anyone know how to make it fit??

some cars are just like that they don't have much room for stereos but the stock one, most people just look at the specs of the head unit before they buy it and if it seems like it wont fit then people just measure, but there are two things to do about it. 1 Get a different one that's not as big. 2 Just deal with the part showing.

i purchased a car dvd player on ebay for $400 and now i realize that it isn't working properly (it only plays cd's for about 10 seconds, but everything else is fine) everything is connected properly, I doubled checked. In the auction it states it powers up excellent. then it also says its sold as is and all sales final no returns. the seller mentioned it worked when pulled from his car but it is sold as is because the seller is not responsible for incorrect installation or if anything goes wrong.

the stereo had shipping insurance so if it was dropped could that have something to do with it. (there would be no visible damage though). what should i do?

also, the seller as 100% feedback (60).
i doubt paypal will do much since he did not mention it was garanteed to work and sold as is huh? or am i wrong? still gonna try but i am pretty sure i don't stand much a chance) he said it turns on and it does thats all he mentioned.

Return to Seller You will have to pay return shipping ... If seller doesn't give refund file a complaint via pay pal ... do not neg the seller's feedback unless he is a jerk... I doubt it got dropped by the post office , especially if it was insured. i quit using ebay cause i got sick of stupid sellers who don't care and sell junk .... Paypal will take your complaint seriously,,,, it should work!!! Also track package when you return it to make sure he gets it and doesnt scam you more... Go to pay pal and follow instructions there... Good Luck!

I'd like to learn about doing interior car modifications such as installation of DVD players, maybe one of the Mac Mini mods that I've read about online with a touchscreen, adding additional lighting, etc. However, I know absolutely nothing about doing work on cars, so I'd appreciate some suggestions as to places where I can learn about how to do these sorts of things. I will be doing the modifications on a Lexus LS 430. Thanks for any help you can provide!

This is a profession one will require years of training and practice to be a master in that field.
