Car DVD Players Answers
How long do you think it will take the first company to roll out a portable Blu-Ray player.
You can buy a nice quality portable DVD f="/Home-Speakers/Speakers-Not-Playing-Sound/">player for just one hundred dollars, so obviously the technology is getting cheaper.
And, you can buy a laptop with a Blu-Ray player built in, so obviously the small technology is available.
Your thoughts? I think it'll be interesting to see one actually produced.
Like you said, there are already laptops where you can get Blu-ray playback on it. But I don't think there's going to be portable Blu-ray player anytime soon. The quality difference between a DVD and a Blu-ray on a small screen is not much to none so DVD's still look crisp on a small screen. I think what should be done is that they should make hybrid Blu-ray/DVD discs. One side would have Blu-ray and the other side would have DVD. Wouldn't that be a more logical point because DVD already looks crisp on a small screen?
8.9-inch LCD, 3 hours of battery life, and can be connected to an HDTV via HDMI to act as a standalone player as well. Supports Viera Cast for ...
Is the screen too small to show the benefits of HD?
Will it Upscale my DVDs?
Please try and tailor you answers towards the Layman and not the Technophile! Thank you.
I haven't actually got one yet - I'm just scouting out opinions...
On a small screen, you are not going to see the benefit of Blu-ray..
Think PC screens, a high def PC screen of 20 inches is 1600x1000 at best, and HD is 1000 lines also..
a 7-10 inch screen is going to have less lines.. it would cost too much, and no you cant see that much detail easily.
BUT if all media is going towards Bluray, and they have extras etc
you wll be able to watch the film and see teh extras etc...
2 disk DVD's will be 1 disk BluRay
You also wont need a DVD and Blu ray copy of any movie..
You can start your bluray collection now, and it will be available when you finally get a large screen to connect it to - where you will see the benefit.
It can play DVD's anyway.. .so nothing lost.
though the resolution/clarity is already limited by it being a DVD...
only you can say if the extra cost of a blue ray portable over a DVD portable is worth it, but the advantages are not in the portable player screen display.

When you search for portable blue ray players, the websites lie, they connect you to portable swimming pool basketball goals. I suppose you had the same luck.
Blue ray is still new, they are still trying to convince us to throw away our DVD's and extend the credit limit on our Discover cards to replace all our movies and DVD players.
Before you do that, make sure the stimulous plan is working, and you still have a job.

Panasonic Blu-ray - whathifi.com
We've managed to unearth more details of Panasonic's Blu-ray player line-up for 2009. There will be three standalone models, and the world's first portable Blu-ray player, plus two new BD home cinema systems.
The three standalone models are the DMP-BD60 (pictured), the DMP-BD80 and the DMP-BD70V.
All three will support Viera Cast, enabling them to connect to the web, and later this year customers in the US will be able to view up to 40,000 video-on-demand titles from Amazon through their Panasonic Viera TV or Blu-ray player, as announced yesterday .
Another first is Panasonic's portable Blu-ray model, which supports Full HD 1080p video, and can connect via its Ethernet connection to BD Live content and Viera Cast.
