portable tv dvd player

I have a portable DVD player with built in TV tuner that I purchased in USA. I am situated in South Africa and cannot seem to get it working to pick up TV channels. The DVD part works fine.

run a scan on the TV to capture any TV signals and make sure you have an antennae hooked up to the television set. TV stations broadcast on a FM frequency which their signals do not travel that far such as AM frequencies do.
Look into possible cable or satellite hookups where you are to get a better reception of broadcast in the area.
Make sure your button on your dvd player is set to tv ,not the dvd,there should be a switch on the remote also for tv/dvd .
To set your tv channels ,you must run a scan and save the channels that bring in the reception.

I've asked my parents for a Portable TV & DVD Player, but they either have a REALLY short battery life or it's too expensive.

Is there anywhere that I can get a Portable TV & DVD Player that has a reasonable battery life (3 or more hours, or that comes with a car charger and wall charger) and where the TV displays a clear picture. By the way, I was also wondering if the player would pick up channels such as Prime, Win, ABC, SBS because I live in Australia...

AND, is it also possible that the player has a fairly large screen, so that you can actually see the movies?

I need a new DVD player and I'm wanting a portable DVD player so I was wondering if I could kill two birds with one stone. Does it vary from each DVD player? Do they all do it? Or do I have to buy both? And if it can hook up to a TV, what Portable DVD player would you suggest? And I'm working with a budget, $50 - $150.

I have a Walmart brand that comes with a TV cable. There is an output jack on the player that one end plugs into. The other end goes to the input jacks on the TV. The unit then plays DVDs on the TV just like any other DVD player.

ITS a NTSC TV- DVD player with 10 inch screen (lcd). not possible for refund as i am in India and purchased from Tokyo airport shop through credit card. please suggest gadget.

Not quite sure from the trail-off of your question, but if you bought an NTSC TV from Japan for use in India which is PAL, then your only option is to return it for a refund. It's about like learning to speak Swahili to visit Norway.
