I want to install a dvd player and keep my stock HU. Some people just say why not swap out the stock HU with the dvd player. But I'm just going to use the dvd player strickly for dvd use only. I take long road trip seasonally so i want a dvd player. I just plan to use the audio from the AUX from the existing HU, its ghetto i know but its nothing i'm going to use often.
With that being said i want to purchase this unit and put it in a custom fiberclass housing I am making
This is a dvd player with a motorized monitor

My question is, how do i install it being that the stock HU is occupied with the stock harness. I know how to do most electrical stuff. Where do i draw power from fusebox battery? Will the HU power on if i don't occupy the audio plugs. Is this possible to do? If you look at the picture at the link i provided, you can see the picture of the back. Could I just power the dvd player by connecting the ground, acc, and +12v? Where is the best place to do that.
Thanks in advance
Are you planning to watch DVDs while driving? if you are, pardon my bluntness, stupid enough to do it, I'm not the one going to help you with this.
If you want OCCASIONALLY watch a DVD at a rest stop or something like that, get yourself a portable DVD player, plug it into a cigarette lighter port and enjoy. And you can take it with you into a hotel room and continue watching there...

I got a valor in dash multimedia player and i tried wiring it myself to avoid huge installation costs. I have the harness and it turns on and everything and the radio and cd player works but everytime i turn the headlights on the screen blinks, sometimes when i turn the car on the unit will turn on but the screen won't and i can't figure out how to make it play dvds at all, parked or driving (i know that parking is the right way to do it, but still can't even figure that out) PLEASE HELP!!! step by step directions would be great, thanks!
sounds like you may have hooked a power wire for the DVD player up to the old light wire from your old radio, that comes on with the car lights. did you use the old wiring from the old radio? the easiest way to wire them up is to see if you can find an adapter for your car that will let you install an after market radio (usually around 10-15 bucks), or in your case, a DVD player (same adapter should work for either one) they come with a wiring diagram. it plugs into the plug that you unplugged from your old radio. then it tells you which wires to hook up to which wires on your player. factory radios have a floating ground, so you need this adapter to make your speakers work properly.
The head unit is a valor 7" dvd player that always lets out little hissing sounds. They seem to be related to other parts of the car, ie: when I press on the brakes the hissing gets a bit louder. Is there any way to fix this without replacing any major parts or disconnecting the tweeters?

Check your grounds. add grounds too if can. More than likely its your deck being low end. I had a "monkey audio" made by metra that is exactly like that one and had many audio problems. Other way to help it is adding a good amp and not use deck power at all. Again, check your grounds. If that sound is off of an amp, make sure your power wires are away from your speaker wires and rca cables, noise will get transferred through power wire to the speaker wire.
