How do i build a Subwoofer, NOT an enclosure.?

I have a magnet from a 12 inch subwoofer, but i do not have the speaker itself. I know how to build an enclosure already, but i need to know how to build the actual speaker itself. I was going to try to put a 10 inch speaker on the 12 magnet if possible. Any ideas?


Well if you can get a basket (where the magnet would attach) to house all of the components then its possible. I have thought about it myself. Check out http://youtube.com/watch?v=izQHjVWfzDQ They show the basics of building a speaker. Its basically a voice coil (bunch of copper wire wrapped around a paper tube) attached to a cone.

what stores can i buy speaker enclosures from?

I Need An Enclosure For two 12 inch subwoffrs are there any stores that sell them ?


If you are talking about home audio, none. Majority of the subwoofers for home audio are in enclosures already. Best Buy and other Car audio retail stores carry enclosure box for subwoofer. You can't use car audio speakers for home use. You also need a power amplifier to drive the subwoofer and home audio does not provide amplifier for subwoofers for normal consumers. High end audio does carry power amplifiers, but the price are high. Hope this will help.

no i will not make my own box. is this reccomended ?? if not can i have a link of a good ported box?


i would go and get a custom box made... alpine x pump out soooo much that i think that would be too small, i had a type r in a box too small and the bass sounds real boomy and dodgy, custom made boxs would be the go i think.

12-Inch woofers designed for air suspension speakers like the ancient AR7 (closed enclosure) are rare. I have seen, but lost one e-biz that sells them for about $170 each. Do you know which one and have a name or link?

What is the best way to upholster an enclosure?

My speaker box is nearly finished and I just picked up some fabric. This is my first setup and I know nothing about upholsetry. Just for reference, my box is a very simple rectangular prism that houses two 12 inch subs (3 total cubic feet inside). How should I attach the fabric to the MDF? What is the best way to join corners and edges so they are clean-looking? Any tips or guide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!


get some spray on adhesive and put the uphostlery on there and for the corners you could but some corner protecters to give it a finished look
