4 inch speaker jack

i want to make a cable that one end is a 1/4 inch jack like for a guitar or somthing and then have the other end just as regular speaker wires like you would put in the back of your stereo system and clamp down in those red and black things


(Trying to hook up my Amp cab to be used as speakers for my stereo system)

If you are making a cable to go between an amplifier and a speaker then it should not be shielded. Ordinary speaker wire would be ideal. Just make sure your amp is disconnected from your cabinet speakers before you connect them to your stereo unless you want to see fireworks.

i just bought a 5 pack of shinsonic speakers my power amp (yamaha emx640) has 1/4 inch output jacks on it, can i go from the 1/4 inch jacks to the exposed speaker wire that goes in those little clamps on the back of the speakers?
does the impedance have to be the same?

Sure, but what is your input going to be?

This is a mixer with built-in power amps, that's really for use as an instrument/microphone mixer for up to 5 inputs and a power amp to drive PA speakers. And it seems like it may drive up to 5 independent speakers, as long as you have 5 separate inputs to it.

Or, it has 5 mixable inputs that drive a pair of PA speakers. And, in this case, those 5 shinsonic speakers aren't all going to be hooked up.

This really isn't the kind of amplifier you should be running those speakers with. But, you can get the 1/4 inch jacks at Radio Shack, were you can solder in regular speaker wire to run to the speakers.

I am only using a simple 1/4 inch jack guitar cord with an adapter so that I can plug it in straight to my macbook. Anything recorded with the standard input mic records with both left and right speakers but my electric and acoustic guitar both when plugged in with the 1/4 inch jack only record and play through the left speaker.

geez thats a stumper I am usuallly good at these questions but I have no clue.

Normally, you just connect one to the jack, and then run a wire from the one speaker to the next. Keep the + to + and the - to -. If you do it this way, then you don't have to try to cram two wires onto the 1/4 inch jack. You will have (roughly) an 8 ohm impedance with 60 watts capacity. The Barrel on the 1/4 inch is universally the - by the way, the tip is +.

I have a stereo system set up at home where I play music through my computer and it comes out of the 1/8th inch jack and I have a cable that switches that to two 1/4th inch jacks that go into 2 inputs of a crown ce 2000 watt amplifier that I have. Then I have two speakon cables which run out of two different outputs to two jbl jrx 115 speaker cabinets I have. I am thinking of adding a Powered subwoofer into the setup and have no idea what equipment I need to go about doing that, since its powered theres no need to go through the amplifier. Also the amplifier only has the two inputs and two outputs and no special connection for a subwoofer at all (let alone a powered one). I am thinking I will need something between the 1/8th jack on the computer and the two 1/4 inch jacks on the amplifier that can send out a signal to the powered subwoofer, but then still send out the two output channels to the amplifier (so its still stereo). Any idea what equipment is best for doing this?

You don't want to send the lows to your JRX115s if you're using a subwoofer, or two subwoofers. It causes cancellation problems which makes your bass sound quieter. You want the lows going to your sub, or subs & the highs going to your JRX115 speakers.
