4 inch speaker wire

i just bought a 5 pack of shinsonic speakers my power amp (yamaha emx640) has 1/4 inch output jacks on it, can i go from the 1/4 inch jacks to the exposed speaker wire that goes in those little clamps on the back of the speakers?
does the impedance have to be the same?

Sure, but what is your input going to be?

This is a mixer with built-in power amps, that's really for use as an instrument/microphone mixer for up to 5 inputs and a power amp to drive PA speakers. And it seems like it may drive up to 5 independent speakers, as long as you have 5 separate inputs to it.

Or, it has 5 mixable inputs that drive a pair of PA speakers. And, in this case, those 5 shinsonic speakers aren't all going to be hooked up.

This really isn't the kind of amplifier you should be running those speakers with. But, you can get the 1/4 inch jacks at Radio Shack, were you can solder in regular speaker wire to run to the speakers.

I need to convert live speaker wire and plug it into our soundboard so we can use some speakers and subwoofers as monitors etc until we can actually buy some monitors. I need low cost but decent quality, any ideas?

You cannot connect normal unpowered speaker directly to a mixer - you need a power amp. The output of the mixer goes to the input of the amp and the speakers connect to the amp.

I only need enough so that I can ground the amplifier to something in the back of my trunk, so maybe a 16 inch piece or even less. I don't want to have to buy a whole new kit just for this piece. Do hardware stores (home depot) or stereo stores sell 4 gauge speaker wire by the foot? Thanks

All independent car audio stores should sell it by the foot. I'd start with them first. Some hardware stores might have it too - but would go that route as a last resort.

i want to make a cable that one end is a 1/4 inch jack like for a guitar or somthing and then have the other end just as regular speaker wires like you would put in the back of your stereo system and clamp down in those red and black things

If you are making a cable to go between an amplifier and a speaker then it should not be shielded. Ordinary speaker wire would be ideal. Just make sure your amp is disconnected from your cabinet speakers before you connect them to your stereo unless you want to see fireworks.

I am getting my house pre-wired for sound and in one room we added a volume control to connect to 2 6.5 inch speakers. Speaker wire is 2 pair into the volume control (basic knob control) and then from the volume control out it has 4 pair. Sounds like you are wired for a specific distributed audio system, but you're trying to do something else.

Are the 4 pair in the same jacket? If so, it's cat5 and you could wire the solids to positive and the striped to negative.
