I'm making my own 6.5 inch tower speakers but do i have to buy marine speakers or can i just use regular car speakers?
You don't HAVE to buy marine speakers but if you want them to last more than a couple of outings, you should. Regular speakers have no water proofing at all and even spray from the boat or light rain could damage them. And don't think they'll never see rain or spray because they will, even people jumping into the water can cause water droplets to go as high as the tower, you just never think about it because it doesn't matter. Use marine speakers.

I am looking to put a stereo system into my yamaha suv waverunner. Are waterproof speakers going to be good enough? I know the boat isn't going to be compelty submerged, but the speakers are going to get pretty wet....
Also, what wattage is good for marine speakers? I am looking to use either 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 inch speakers. Any brand and wattage recomendations?
Thanks in advance!
Not only will you have the problem of the speakers getting wet, your player is going to be subjected to extreme moisture as well. Waterproof speakers will, in all probability survive in this environment, but your player... perhaps not so much.
The amplifier power you're going to require to hear over the engine is going to be considerable.
I'm going to assume that your engine at half-throttle will give you a sound level of around 100dB. To be able to hear sound over that, you'll have to be at least 3dB higher (twice the power equals 3dB). This'll require a good-sized amplification of at least 60 watts/channel RMS and speakers capable of handling 85 to 100 watts. (RMS)
To be honest with you, I think you're in for a world of hurt if you attempt this install. Yamaha doesn't ever offer a sound system as an accessory on their waverunner website. I'm sorry to be negative on this one.
HOWEVER... a waterproof case for your iPod/mp3 player and waterproof phones might be just the ticket for you!

1.)I need to know what the best Amplifier would be to purchase for these 2 subs.
2.)The best amplifier for 1 of these subs.
3.)Best wires to buy.
I ask because I'm not very knowledgeable in car audio systems as far as what to buy with what, etc. I could imagine that I need a 1600w amplifier for 2 800w subs, with maybe 2 channels?, but I'm not sure about that. Thanx for the help ahead of time.
mtx thunder 200 watts per side . very compct . great wirin accesability . tremndous base . very very reliable , long lasting . best warrenty which is never used . compact size to keep people away . best dollar value available . just raw tone and clarity. enjoy
I've spent days trying to decide which would be better for me. I want to use either a single 10" or 12" Polk Audio MM series single voice coil sub. The main issue here is available space to put the box and two amps. If I get really creative with 3/4" MDF and Polyfill I could barely squeeze the 12" behind the back seat. I thought about putting the amps in a different spot but honestly the best solution is to build a separate compartment on to the sub box and mount the amps inside it with fans for airflow and rubber to absorb vibrations. Afterall this is going in a Wrangler, with the top down they could get rained on and with a soft top and plastic windows there really isn't anything stopping someone from stealing an amp in plain sight. Mainly I listen to rock with a touch of hip-hop and techno type music. I know a 10" would be great for most rock but I'm worried that it just won't be enough for the heavy/grunge type rock and pounding beats of hip-hop/techno. I am pretty much dead-set on one of these Polk subs because the other speakers in the Wrangler are a set of Polk Audio 6 1/2" and 5 1/4" component speakers run on a Polk 4-channel amp. All of these Polk speakers are marine-rated which is great for a Jeep, plus the box will be sprayed with truck bed liner so it will be waterproofed as well. My other concern is that with the extremely limited space, the sub will be facing the back of the rear seat with only an inch or two of space between the subs grille and the fabric of the seat. The seat is just a few inches thick made of foam and wire support frame.. will that be enough to greatly reduce the bass transmitted to the front passengers? Most of the time the back seat isn't in the vehicle so it wouldn't matter, but whenever I've got friends along it has to be in and with friends riding along its the best time to crank the music!
Oh and I was also just a bit concerned that a 10" sub wouldn't be a huge difference from the two 6 1/2" woofers in the rear component set. But I haven't been around more than a couple vehicles with subs in my life so by all means call me an idiot if the difference is like night and day between those sizes!
Go with the 10", save yourself a few bucks. I dare anyone to be able to tell the difference between the 2 when installed in identical vehicles.
The money you save can go towards buying super glue as you reattach all the car parts vibrated apart from the bass. :-)

The cover fell off the outside speaker on our travel trailer. I was surprised to find that Amazon was able to get replacement parts very inexpensively. We replaced both speakers on the outside of the trailer so they would match since the color was different. Very satisfied with the service and the value of the product.
