Hello all, can you help me and maybe explain how the aspect ratio works as well, Im all set up, I have the new 1080p Mitsubishi DLP (2010) TV, its a 65 inch. also samsung blue-ray player, and bose 5 speaker surround system, all movies i have tried are blue ray.. my first movie was the soloist, superb quality in blue ray, and of course in widescreen.. second movie was bangkok dangerous, CRAP quality, i changed every setting and it is in full screen, grainy yuck... it says it is blue ray 1080p and widescreen, i didnt even finish it. 3rd movie was the new fast and furious, awesome, again widescreen and great , 4th movie i forget, well, again full screen and tube tv looking. the worst is bangkok dangerous, maybe its the aspect ratio??? i know all the settings very well so it cant be any component r tv settings, here is the only differnece i can find
bangkok is : Video resolution: 1080p
Aspect ratio: 1.78:1
The Soloist: Video resolution: 1080p
Aspect ratio: 2.39:1
Fast & Furious: Picture: Widescreen (2.40:1)
Color
so maybe its this aspect thing, it seems like anything 2. anything is widescreeen (with black bar on top and bottom (which i love) and could it be anything with ratio of 1. anything will be full screen stretched, and can you please explain the 2. or 1. ratio thing, thank you so much for your time
It's not the ASPECT thing...that's the width and height of the picture.....
CRAP pictures are created when a 480i picture source is transferred to 1080i...
Bangkok Dangerous was never 1080...it was 480.
I Love Lucy could be 1080 on Blu Ray, but the original source is and always will be 480. And it would look just as bad as Bkok Dangrs.
There's nothing wrong with your TV set or it's settings, it's just doing what the DVD disc is delivering.

if you use more power it will be good.. use ohms law to calculate it

my girlfriend bought me some Alpine 6.5 SPR-17S component speakers and since the only amp i have is this sony xplod amp that has the following specs:
1000W max power
165W x 2, 20Hz - 20kHz, @ 0.04% THD + N, at 4 Ohms
200W x 2, 20 - 20kHz, @ 0.15% THD + N, at 2 Ohms
400W x 1, 20Hz - 20kHz, @ 0.1% THD + N, at 4 Ohms
OTL (Output Transformerless) circuit
Pulse power supply
Line & High Level Inputs
.3-6V Level Adjustment Control (RCA Pin Jacks) 1.2-12V (High Level Input)
80 Hz, -18dB/octave Low Pass Filter Switch
My question is will the alpine speakers be ok if i run this amp to it? i just want to make sure that i dont blow them or anything like that...i also have some pioneer 6X9s in the rear...heres the specs for the Component speakers:
Sensitivity 87 dB
Frequency Response 65 - 27k Hz
RMS Power Range (Watts) 8-110
Peak Power Handling (Watts) 330
Impedance (Ohms) 4
Top-mount Depth (Inches) 2 3/8
Bottom-mount Depth (Inches) 2 5/8
Cutout Diameter or Length (inches) 5 5/16
or should i just wait untill i save some money for a new amp? thanks in advance...
you should be ok, more speakers give their lives to under powered amps and clipped signal then too much power. i have seen systems with punch 200s, running speakers rated for 60 watts
I just took the big leap and ordered my DLP HDTV. I'm setting up a room in my basement as my home theater and would like some suggestions on how to set it up.
The room is a long (19') and narrow (10.5') and it has stained wood paneling on all 4 walls. I've got a 9' x 9' black leather sectional couch coming for me and my friends to watch the games on, and a 65-inch Mitsubishi Diamond on its way. The room is going to have all black components, speakers, shelving, tables and whatnot. We're in the basement so the lights can be controlled easily.
I'm thinking that the wood-grain might be a little distracting behind the tv. While the TV will take up a good portion of the wall, I'm thinking that I would like to paint the wall some neutral or dark color to simplify the backdrop and emphasize the picture. The Mitsu Diamond has an extremely thin black border around the screen. Are there any colors that work better for this? The TV is obviously going to be the focal point of the room.

If color fidelity, gamma and “shadow detail” are high priorities then you’re on the right track. A dark, neutral gray, matte paint would be an excellent choice (though matte black would be an acceptable alternative) to paint what is commonly referred to as the “surround” area of the display, which in your case would be the entire wall behind the display. Just be aware that this is a practice that is more common to color-critical professional applications and could easily be deemed overkill for the average home theater where aesthetics are often equally—if not more—important to most homeowners.
Nevertheless, if you’re still interested you may want to consider purchasing spectrally neutral gray paint from a company such as eCinema Systems. More often than not these types of specialty paints are fairly expensive, which may prove to be a significant deterrent.
SP50 - spectrally accurate neutral gray “surround” paint (in one gallon containers) available through:

You can also try searching the Internet for specialty suppliers that sell Munsell Neutral Gray Paint. Again, such specialty paints will be fairly expensive.
The next best (and less expensive) option would be a custom mixed dark, neutral gray, matte paint from your local hardware store or paint supplier.
