Car Speakers Answers

car speakers. sizes & power requirements.

I need someone with speaker AUTHORITY.
I have 4 1/2 inch speakers measured diagonally across the speaker grill hole to hole for screw mounting. The speakers are old but fairly decent still. Just some distortion when I pump up the volume a little to hear as I go down the road at 70 mph. Pioneer TS-1044k. 4 ohm. The power output on the speakers are 30w. Max music power 10 w nom. power.
The car stereo is a Sanyo with 25 watts rms at 8 ohms per channel. 4 channels.. It works just fine . I have front speakers I bought last year that are ok.
I really need to couple up the rear speakers for a real nice super sound. No distortion. I would spend a few bucks for the right kind, but not the moon. I am not a boom box blaster type but like Real quality sound. My ears are getting not as acute as when I was young. I do not want to be driven out of the VW Vanagon either. I like just about everything but rap, country, and Barbara Striesend. I like new age, Jazz, classical, old school rock. Neil Young. Now these I would like to hear the words. Blues, Blue grass. Get the sound and style I am into?
Please help me mate the exact right sounding speakers. Please no distortion. A clean clear full range with some bass, but thumping not needed.
Like I saw some speakers that went for $5.99 all the way up to $200. a speaker. I think that $200 might be a little too pricey. Just keep me in the ball park and hit a small home run. Thanks.

Ken

First of all, speakers don't have power output. Depending on their impedance and the amplifier you have, they'll receive a certain amount of power from the amplifier.

It is my professional option that rear speakers suck! I haven't used rear speakers in about 15 years. Also, $200 for speakers isn't too too bad. Check out Rainbows at $10k a set! lol.

Anyway, If it was my vehicle, I'd look into a better quality 4" for the front with an amplifier to push them. Make sure they're installed real well with quality baffling and a decent crossover. Nowhere will you find a "quality rear stage." In your top of the line home theater systems, all the main speakers are in front of you. At a concert, the speakers are in front of you. Etc. etc. etc. Why would your car be any different?

If you absolutely must have rear speakers for some reason, knock yourself out. Also, upgrading that horrible deck would be a step in the right direction. Sanyo has never made a quality unit and they never will. Sorry bro ... truth of the matter. Get a pioneer, alpine, eclipse, clarion, kenwood, jvc, panasonic, something other then Sanyo. That with some better speakers and you may be in business. If you're still not satisfied with your sound, I'd look to amplifying the fronts. If you're looking for more low end, look to a sub solution of some sort. Doesn't have to be 2 12" or anything like that. One 8" can often do the trick, or the right pair of 6".

I'm not sure if I answered any of your questions or not. Regardless, I hope some of the info is helpful to you. peace.

ok, first to clear up wrong answers. a stock 00 grand am takes 4x6s in the front and 6x9s in the rear. so yes these speakers will fit fine.

however, these speakers are a waste of money. there going to sound bad, cause there cheap. if your going to replace your stock speakers, then do it right. get a good 6x9 from one of the following brands.

Boston Acoustics
Diamond Audio
Pioneer Premier
Kenwood Excelon
MB Quart

any 6x9 from any of these brands will sound much, much better then that POS you linked. why buy something that wont make your sound any better?

good luck

Juke box speaker replacement question , advice required please NSM Galaxy?

I have just purchased a NSM Galaxy jukebox and I took the grill off to check the speakers and basically they have all had it, literally

I have removed them and would like some kind soul to advise as to what I need .

In the lower cabinet there are two large woofer speakers, the hole in the cabinet measures 11 inches across

then there are two medium sized ones which say 8 ohms and the actual hole is 6 inches across

and then there is a smaller one at 8 ohms which is 4.5 inches across

The tweeters in the top of the cab are fine

Can anyone suggest speakers in the UK which would replace the ones taken out?

I would like to replace these asap but dont know what to go for, I dont want a subwoofer as the are for cars aint they
DO you measure the size of the woofer from side to side of the auctual woofer not the frame?
I have measured the space and its exactly 11 inches across ive looked on the auction site and aint seen any 11 inchers, guess theres no one bragging tonight

You have answered your question already,

You need 2 x 6" 8 ohm speakers (rated high enough in Watts as the AMP can supply)

and a 4.5" 8ohm speaker (again, with a similar or greater power rating in Watts)

The Sub, will also be marked for Impedance, measure the size of the steel frame diameter. - they are pretty much standard sizes.

Use the sub, they are NOT just for cars!

i know that the speaker rms is 1000 watts, this amp if im not mistaken puts out 1000 watts at 2ohms, will the amp overheat? how should the speaker be wired? can this amp power this sub perfectly?

as long as you don't try to overdo it you should be ok, keep in mind companies will write 1000 on the box to get you to buy it, you shouldn't actually be trying to push that much all the time. and as far as wiring the speaker, if the amp is only one channel, i don't think you really have options
