Car Speakers Answers
I have wholes in my ceiling that my builder put in for me, they measure 8 inches accross the center from side to side. I purchased 8 inch ceiling speakers..but apparently I ordered the wrong size. The speaker can fit, but the rest of the speaker don't fit. What size speaker does a 8 inch whole accomidate..?
Thanks, I found the template, I will make the wholes bigger..very easy to do.Thanks for the answers
so the speaker you bought is too big for the hole you have?
what part of the speaker does not fit?
a true 8" round ceiling speaker needs a hole at least 9" in diameter
a 6.5" ceiling speaker needs about 7-7.5
hopefully you are installing true speakers and not like the ones in a doctors office
true speaker example:

As you will see in the coming soon test vid the speaker does preform. The components are not the best but it does work well for only being a $40 ...
Floorspeakers have 8 inch woofers. will sub woofer reduce bass from larger speakers
You don't say anything about your main L&R speakers other than woofer size but I am going to assume here that they have a good low frequency response.
The sub will only lessen the bass output from your mains in one of two ways:
1) If you send the signal to the sub speaker level and then to the mains from the speaker level outputs on the sub. There is likely a crossover in the sub that will take low level bass away from the sub.
2) If you designate all of the low level bass to be sent to the sub in the receiver's menu. Be sure you set your speakers to large in the receiver's menu. Also tell the receiver to send LFE to both the sub and the mains in the menu.
Go ahead and expirament with the crossover on the sub. If you set it kust below the low frequency response of the mains you will find that the sub will not see much use and the 8" just won't do the job satisfactorily in the rest of the omnidirectional range. There is nothing wrong with some overlap with the mains since bass below 100 hz or so is omnidirectional anyway. I would probably set the sub's crossover between 80-90 hz.

being that they are 8" i would say... it would be a good idea. saying that they are either full range , or woofers. if you don't want distortion from being under powered , there is no way your head unit could supply enough to properly drive them, even cheap ones

I have a Sony receiver that puts out 105 watts per channel. What can I do to get a thicker bass? I'm just not the best tech guy. Thanks for any insight you might have
tannoy b&w ,mission or tdl do offer better bass response depending on the model chosen but if you dont want to upgrade the speakers try a pre and power amp or if thats not feasable krell are ok for improved sound. if your using a surround sound amp maybe upgrade to yamaha . audition first before buying any combination. there are many products on the market to suit your needs . most importantly the more sensitive the speakers the louder the response . you could try a sub if your buget allows
i need to know if its suitable for a small gig if not a cheap alternative
Most likely no.
15 watts is nothing if we are talking solid state. If it is a 15 watt tube amp, then it would have enough power but with such a small speaker the sound would not disperse through the room very well and you probably wouldn't be able to hear yourself if you are playing with other musicians (i.e. a band).
I would suggest getting something like this:

OR THIS
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/produ ct/Epiphone-Valve-Junior-Combo-Amp?sku=4 80260
That is my suggestion, however, if you are in need of something cheaper you will probably have to go with a solid state. If you don't know the difference between a tube amp and a solid state amp, email me and I'll fill you in on some stuff.
