they will work... but work very poorly... you would require a mp 2-3 times as large to produce the same volume, ultimately costing you way more than if you were to buy subs designed specifically for the car. For that price there are plenty of options out there for you to look at, one of which the guy above mentioned. but really the options are abundant, i suggest taking a trip to a good audio store, not a best buy or circuit city but a good store, such as a apt, or Tweeter, they can show you lots of options that are not only better, but look and sound better as well.

i bought two 12'' bass speakers and a 1200 watt amp, but i have a brand new 07 cobalt with the stock radio in it, can i install it without buying a new radio?

What these guys are explaining is called a Line Out Convertor, or LOC. These convert the high level signal from your radio into a low level signal that your amp needs. This is where you 'tap into' your rear speakers' wires on one end and on the other are RCA jacks. After you 'tap into' your rear speakers, you connect an RCA wire to the other side and hook the other end of the RCA wire into the amplifier.
You'll need to run a small wire from your battery (5 amp fuse near the battery) to a switch by the driver, usually on the console or at the bottom of the dash. After the switch it goes to the remote turn-on input on the amp. With the switch, you can turn the amp on and off so it doesn't stay on and drain the battery.
Make sure power and ground wires (you'll need 4g) are connected to the amp well. Make sure the ground is screwed, preferably bolted, to a clean, bare piece of metal.

I have a dodge dynasty and I want to put a nice sound system on the trunk that could blow the girl's clothes of but i'm not sure what are the best brand for bass speakers...the ones that I think are Punch,Kicker,Sony X-plode,Audiobahn,but i'm not sure which ones are the ones that can do what I want...obiously with a big 1,600 watts amplifier...

So this is going to be a very temporary setup before I get the amp and cables, but I was just curious if it was possible to somehow connect wires from the bass speakers onto the wires going to one of my rear speakers and still have them both playing? If so what are the precautions?

Not a recommended solution.

The amplifier inside of your radio cannot produce nearly enough power to efficiently run subwoofers. The radio is also not designed to run more than 4 speakers (2 front and 2 rear).

My advice: Wait until you get the rest of the required gear (amp, wires, etc.) and then put everything in.
