I have a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. I can't figure out how to play my mp3 player (not an ipod) through my car speakers. The stereo has an aux. option (Rockford Fosgate Stereo) I've tried 3 different FM transmitters and they all suck (belkin, monster, etc). Does any one know where the aux. input is located or if it even has one? I called Rockford Fosgate they said it is in the back but no one makes a harness for it and it might take them up to 1 &1/2 years to make one! What sense does that make? Any suggestions?
The aux. input looks like a small headphone jack. You can purchase several options to adapt your MP3 player. If it's not an Ipod, your choices are a little more limited, best thing to do, get a cable with a headphone jack (male) on each end. Plug one into the MP3 player, and one into the stereo aux input. Check your owner's manual for location of aux. input. Best Buy and other popular music stores can help you find what you're looking for. Depending on what you get, they can install for free. You could spring for a $100 deck, get free installation, plus parts, and also have them do something for your MP3 player. If you already have an aftermarket stereo, consult the manual (online or paper included with product) of the stereo you purchased for location of aux. input. RockfordFosgate sometimes gets ahead of themselves, but most aux. inputs are still basically a headphone jack that works in reverse. Safety tip: learn the controls of your MP3 player, listen to a few seconds of a song to find what you want to listen to, or just put it on random, and put the MP3 player in a cup holder or similar that will keep it in place. This reduces many distractions which can cause you to cause an accident, and, at minimum, triple your insurance premiums.

About a month ago I had 2 rear eclipse speakers installed in my car, and about 2 days ago they blew out. I have 2 polk audio speakers in the front, and they are starting to go bad, but I got those like 8 months ago. Does anyone know if there are any really high quality speakers out there that wont blow out easily? Does it matter what kind of cd player you have, cause I have an eclipse player. Does it matter if you have an amp or not?
I would go with any of the Infinaty Kappas. I just put 2 pairs in my Element with a Rockford Fosgate Amp to power them and they ROCK!!!!!

I have 97 Honda civic, searching for new set of speakers and a cd player. All speakers I see are of 180-300 W and Cd player output would be 50 watt.
Q#1: Is it advisable to buy these kind of speakers when I am not planning to buy an amp? I am planning to buy eclipse SE8365 and SE8495.
Q#2: Which cd player I should buy to get good quality output with these speakers (without amp)? My budget is arnd $130
Q#3: Where in portland/beaverton I should have these speakers installed (less cost)? Circuit city does it for 70 and then they charge for speaker horness ($22) and radio horness ($20), is it good to get it done thr?
Thanks
Before these questions can be answered you need to understand some basics of car audio and the 12V power grid they operate off of.
The numbers you're reading on speaker wattage ratings and head unit outputs are for the most part BS. Those numbers are MAX wattage. Most head units put out between 10-22W per channel on the high end. If you look closely at the specs on the speakers you listed you'll note they call for 75W of continuous power. This is the RMS (recommended wattage), they also note a "peak" power of 220 watts. This peak power is simply a spec noting at 220 or above this speaker will fail.
With your price range for a head unit don't expect to get more than 15 watts per channel. Will 15 watts push a speaker rated at 75 watts RMS? Absolutely. Will the speaker function to the best of it's ability...absolutely not.
Bottom line, if you're not going to invest in an amplifier then don't waste much on replacing speakers...or the head unit for that matter. A cheap set of Pioneers at Wal-Mart will sound just as good on a $100 head unit as a set of Eclipse 6x9's.
Save up a bit longer and invest in a mid-level head unit, decent component speakers, and an amp. The sound quality will go through the roof.
