Car Speakers Answers
i have a 2002 ford explorer and i wanted to replace all the factory speakers because someone upgraded them before i bought the car and they sound terrible. i am talking about the ones that are in the door panel.
You can buy some aftermarket ones for the same price as OEM ones that will sound far better.
This thing did not have a chance. This speaker is 40w PEAK and 20w RMS. Less than 1 second the wire lead to the voice coil blew out like a fuse.
If you were to replace those horrendous OEM speakers that came with your car, which brand of speakers would you go with (Infinity, Boston Acoustics, Rockford Frostgate, etc.) ? You know, in fact, just share how you would re-do your whole car stereo system, if you have done so, or think about doing so.
I have always been a big fan of MB Quart speakers. They offer clarity, sharpness and excellent reproduction not found in many brands of speakers. They are however very costly unless you buy some of the cheaper ones.
The best thing to do is shop around, listen to a few different speakers and see what you like. It is very important to determine if you can get the sound quality you want with the budget that you have. I have been around car audio a long time and made this mistake many times before I leaned my lesson. Get exactly what you want the first time or at the very least close to what you want and staying in your budget. If you buy the "Well these will be good enough" speakers you can bet within a month or two you will be wishing you bought the "other ones" you liked. You'll end up selling the ones you have to a buddy for peanuts and then spend the money for what you really wanted. In the longshot you will have spent almost double than if you just bought what you "really" wanted in the first place.
My last system was in a 94 Z24, It consisted of 3 MTX amps, custom door panels. 3.5" kaption Mids in the dash with Clarion Pro Audio tweeters and Canton Crossovers. In the doors I had Rockford Fosgate Fanatic X speakers, 6" and tweets. In the rear I had Soundstream Exact 5 1/4's with reference series tweeters and crossovers. Top that off with an MTX 3 channel crossover, cap, 31 band EQ and a Kaption Pro Audio sub. Deck, changer Satalite radio, etc.
My Current vehicle that I am collecting stuff for will be (Only need wiring and sub still) Alpine deck and changer with 31 band eq module. MB Quart Premium 5 1/4's with tweets in the doors with 6.5's and tweets in the rear. I am using MB Quart Reference series amplifiers (They are huge and hard to keep together without custom panels) and will be using MB quart subs.
Keep within your budget but don't scrimp. You will find better sound quality and a larger difference in a good deck and amp then you will with the speakers. A good amplifier and deck are the main source. It doesn't matter how good your speakers are, if it comes out of the deck sounding like junk you will end up with junk.
Use 2 amps, one for subs and one for mids and highs. The less "work" you assign to an amp the better it will perform.
Think of it like this, do you work better when you have to do everyones job or just a specific set of tasks? Apply that to the amplifiers..
Bottom line is do your homework.

Listen to calls or stream music on a powerful 2-watt speaker or through car speakers using the FM transmitter
I have a Lexus SC430 and the factory system uses 8ohm speakers. I blew several of the speakers and can not find replacement 8ohm car audio speakers, only 4 ohm. What happens if I use 4ohm speakers? The OEM speakers cost $200+ each so that is not an option.
If you use a 4ohm speaker, the power will increase from the amp, this could be a problem, if you are using the factory system and stereo. If it was designed with 8ohm speakers, it was most likely done for a reason. Switching to 4 ohm could cause unwanted affects on the radio amplifier, if it can not handle an impedance lower than 8 ohm.

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger that still has it's OE radio/cd player. I also have a Sirius Sportster4 hooked up to it. Recently, the cd player stopped working. To complicate matters my wife want a Sirius too. I seldom listen to am/fm anymore and all I need the radio for is to listen to cds. I know the Sirius uses an unused fm channel as link to get to my speakers. Am I better off moving the Sirus to her car and going all new in my truck, or fixing my radio and buying another Sporster for her car? The guy at the shop thinks the factory recievers get better reception than aftermarket units
ok lets say you go to the movies and the crook are out for the night braking in to vehicles
they run in to 2 2003 ford rangers in the parking lot and look inside the window
what window are they going to brake ?
ranger with OEM radio
or ranger with new aftermarket radio ? maybe there are amplifiers and woofers in the back
do you know how much is the window for your truck ?
yes it cost a lot more than the new radio
also OEM IS better and there is nothing wrong with sound quality
you want more volume add a 4 channel amplifier
good luck
I'm looking to replace my OEM speakers on my '97 ford escort. Can anyone point me to a decent set on eBay? I just want a nice set, nothing too crazy obviously. The reason I am asking is because I have found what looks like some good deals but I don't know anything about brand names and which ones are / aren't junk. Thanks!
always remember one thing, Brand Name matters. the cheap ones are made of poor quality parts and will distort and not last long in the sun. you would be better of just going to you local car audio shop and buying them there and they will steer you the right way. just tell how much you want to spend and they will get you your money woth. but in the end you get what you pay for. you can get some good speaker from around $80 at your local store or even cheaper if your not going to be cranking it up. i personaly recomend sony, kenwood, pioneer, JBL, MTX. in that order going from worst to best but still all being good speakers. but just stick with the shops and the brands and you wont get riped off.
