speakers 15 inch woofer

So the ones with the built in circuit breakers are better than the ones with the fuses right? I got a real nice pair of HH Scott speakers with 15 inch woofers & Six drivers.

HH SCOTT made excellent products for their day. I would not necessarily say that circuit breakers or fuses are better as they have very little to do with the actual performance of the speaker. Circuit breakers were undoubtedly a more expensive protection method on the manufacturing side which is why current speaker companies use fuses for powered speakers. At the time circuit breakers were probably much more convenient as it was far more likely the breaker would trip regularly.

Are you able to manually reset the breakers on your speakers? I'm curious as I have not had the opportunity to see the S12's in person.

Choose subs that have a sensitivirty of 92dB or higher for the loudness part. For long lasting the subs should have rubber surround. For quality choose speakers that are CEA-2031 compliant.

Something you should know....

If your total system power is 1200 watts RMS or more, you will need to:

1. Upgrade the alternator to a high output alternator
2. Upgrade to a yellow top battery
3. Upgrade the "Big 3" - that is to replace (or add to) the power wire between the battery and alternator, the ground from the battery to the chassis and the ground strap from the engine/tranny to the chassis with at least 2 AWG wire.

Failure to do this will result in the early death of the alternator as it will eventually fail.

A second battery is never a good idea as it's an added strain on the alternator to charge two batteries AND supply power for the car. The ONLY time a second battery is useful is if the audio system is to be used with the car off.

A capacitor is only good so far as the audio system isn't trying to pull too much from the electrical system. A cap doesn't provide more power, it's designed to 'stiffen' the voltage to the amp, nothing else. If the current isn't there, a cap won't help.

The alternator must have at least 20% more amperage power than the entire vehicle and sound system combined for a cap to be of benefit which is ironically the same requirements for an amp to be efficient.

My receiver is a KENWOOD 107VR how many watts is it? My sister turned it on without my permission how much power can they take before they blow? my speakers do have built in circuit breakers but can't they still get damaged by turning up too loud or overpowering them?My speakers have 15 inch woofers & Six Drivers. They are 150 watts 8 ohm. They are from 1987 & the brand name is HH Scott.
Please only people that know what you are talking about or anyone that had experience with speakers that have circuit breakers or vintage speakers

Your question is very vague. Did something happen? Do they sound bad? It is possible to damage speakers of any vintage by having your amplifier go into clipping. Since circuit breakers are only amplitude type devices, and your receiver may or may not have the power to trip them, that wouldn't prevent damage to the tweeters. The technical reasons for this type of damage are many, but it is for that reason that you are cautioned not to have an underpowered amp, particularly if you listen to loud music.

If nothing sounds wrong, forgive your sister. She will still be around when your stereo system turns to dust.

have a new sony receiver its 7 channels but very week in the bass, and i have an old onkyo eq i would like to use, but the receiver has no tape monitor, or pre amp in and out, how can i connect this eq, or at least get more bass out of it, i have the receiver connected to 2 fisher speakers with 15 inch woofers, i hate to buy a powered sub and not be able to use these speakers that still work perfect




its model : STR-DE898. i have the bass setting up all the way, but just is very weak in bass when playind cd's

According to the online spec, the DE898 does have a MD/Tape loop as well as a Video1 in/out you could use. But if it doesnt sound good w/o the EQ, I doubt it will be any better with. Make sure both speakers are wired in phase with 14 or 12 gauge cable and set the front speakers to large in the setup menu. You also did not mention what you were using for the center or rears. Those should be timbre matched to the front speakers which is going to be difficult given the vintage. Maybe a quick note to Santa is in order for a nice matched theater monitor/sub system?

They are Vintage they have Six Drivers & 15 inch woofers & built in circuit breakers to protect them. Should I be fine? I want to have these for a very long time. The brand of the speakers is HH Scott from 1987. My amp is a Kenwood 107VR from 1997. They are front speakers 8 ohm

No, but an amp that is 150 watts could blow a 120 watt speakers. The watts on the speakers should be more than the receiver.
