Alpine car tv tuner and gps..................?
Anyone have either of these in their car? how would you rate their performance..... thanks
if you don't, please don't bother saying "no".
I don't, but I have installed many. A lot of the stock GPS systems are made by Alpine too. They are pretty good units.

Will the Alpine PKGD106M300 Car In-Dash GPS Navigation System work in a Acura?
I called Cruthfield.com and they told me not to install an after market in dash navigation system in a Acura 08-09 model because it will create a fault with the cooling system. The wiring for the A/C is connected to the stereo unit and will cause problems. Another vendor said it will work. Has anyone installed an alpine system in their TSX 08-09? Any issues? I want to make sure before I start spending money and get into a messy situation.
Crutchfield got it right.

Yesterday I purchased a GPS and I feel like I need to take some security measures for my car to prevent my electronics from being stolen. Along with the GPS I have an iPod connected to a Harman/Kardon Drive+Play unit, an Escort radar detector, and an older Alpine radio. As it stands, my car is begging for its window to be broken out and have everything stolen.
I have a car alarm, but as everyone knows, they are almost useless.
I could remove every item (radio faceplate, gps, ipod, radar detector) and carry it with me every time I got out of the vehicle, but this is far too much trouble.
Is anyone aware of a security accessory for their auto electronics? I appreciate any help or suggestions.
stick it in your glove box and lock the door? also they have aftermarket alarms/remote starts that tell you via the remote when the alarm is going off which is a little more useful than flashing lights.
i have the same problem but when all else fails hang around awhile and carry a big stick.

i just bought an alpine gps system i put the battery in charged it for a bit but whenever it always says looking for gps sattellites and doesnt go past that
everything else is working fine. like it has the locations in it. but like i cant tell where i am right now. also the charger got stuck in the car lighter thing.
well you should allow it to find gps satellites for some time ( some gps take upto like 20 minutes for finding sats, but that's fro first time only, after that it's usually just a matter of minutes.
i don't thing if it can be replaced, ( charger got stuck in it) and if it's broken, it is definatley not going to be replaced.
you should probably get a new one ( buy it or get it replaced)
My car is a Nissan Pulsar Vector GL, i think 1988? And I was planning on installing this $168 alpine radio here

A new radio has replaced the stock radio a few years ago so I don't know if that will make it easier to replace that one? Do i need to watch out for anything and take any precautions? I get the idea that it will just be like replacing a DVD drive in a computer. Unplug wires, and put em back in the same position of the new radio :)
Thanks for any help.
yes changing a radio is a simple job. It is even easier when there is already an aftermarket radio in the car. To make your installation easier you should buy a new wire harness for your car. A wire harness hooks on to your stock radio wires and gives you new easy wires to connect to your new aftermarket. You can find it here http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_1259 3_Metra+71-1763.html
Here are instructions:
1.Take off your existing radio faceplate
2.With your new radio you should have these metal key (they should look something like this http://www.deals-on-ice.co.uk/shop/image s/pc5-109.jpg) slide these in the little slots you see on the left and right side of your radio until they lock in
3. Pull the keys out and your radio will slide right out as well
4. Unplug the existing wire harness from the stock wire harness and the antenna.
5. Plug in new wire harness (or you can cut the existing wire harness wires and just use those, but it takes longer)
6. Take new radio's wires and connect them either by crimping them together or electrical tape
7. plug the wires and antenna wire in back of the new radio
8. slide new radio in the slot until it clicks in
That is all is needed to install a new radio

Car audio maker Alpine on Wednesday revealed a partnership with Nokia and CE4A , a group of car makers working on standardizing the integration of mobile devices into cars. It will allow users to access phone functions and Nokia's Ovi services that include NAVTEQ-powered navigation as well as data-network dependent widgets on the in-car entertainment system. The connected technology is called Terminal Mode and will allow for the safe and legal operation of most, if not all, of the smartphone's services.
Users will have the option of connecting the smartphone using Bluetooth or via a USB cable to preserve battery life on longer trips. The technology's founders foresee features that would combine fuel level and consumption with a GPS-located gas stations to plan gas stops, or navigating to the nearest station or one with the lowest price. Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) safety features could also be supported to warn of upcoming sharp bends or other road cautions.
