My car has GPS. I heard about a program for the computer that can track GPS. How do I get this?

I also need to know how to get my cars GPS unit number so I can use the program to track my car.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question correctly, but are you trying to track where your car is from your home computer? This is not how the GPS receiver in your car works. In your car, the device only receives signals from satellites, which it uses to determine its position. There are computer programs that can do the same thing with an attached receiver. For example, if your car doesn't have GPS, you can carry around your laptop and a GPS receiver and map your location.

Can I get a gps in my car that would link to my computer at home so I always know where my car is?

I want to know where my car is when my teens are out running around. I don't want them to know that the gps is installed in the car. Secret!

Car locator gps units are available that will keep track of your car at all times. Delivery vans etc use them for efficient routing. Some you can check using your cell phone. One I am familiar with is (Zoomback Advanced GPS car and family locator). You login to a website and it gives current location as well as a history of where vehicle has been.

Do I need to have an actual computer in my car to use a gps?

I want to buy a Gps for someone I know and I want to know if they will need to actually have it connected to a labtop while they are driving in order to use it.

No. You don't need a computer.

Most GPS or navigations for cars are stand alone units.

Car Computer?

Anyone know a few sites where can i find a complete "In dash" car computer system with a 7" flip screen with internet access (be able to download music, movies & software) & comes with gps as well for around $500?

p.s. on the monitor - it could be touch screen or pen touch it doesn't matter.
All that above that I mentioned + where u can play dvd+r's and mp3 cd-r's as well.

The $500 figure is a little far fetched. If anything, you're going to have to assume that it is going to cost more than a normal PC due to lack of availability. I've been looking into these myself, and the following website is a good start:

Good luck.

Is a computer necessary to use a GPS car navigation?

No, they are self contained. I like the one's you just plug into the cigerett lighter, that way you can take it with you and use it in any car...even a rental. You can update them every couple of years ...that you have to have a computer to do it, and it might cost some to, but I have had mine for 6 years, and havent updated.

  • Five Great Uses For The iPad In The Car : Computer Coupons – News ...

Though it remains to be seen whether Apple’s iPad will be the killer hand held device of 2010, it is fairly obvious how useful the device looks as an accessory for cars. There are a number of uses the iPad can be put to when installed in your car and we go through some of them here.

    GPS

Perhaps its most obvious use will be that of a GPS navigation system, through the Google Maps application. To be able to use the iPad as a GPS in your car, you will need to buy a 3G GPS iPad and pay your telecom provider a subscription fee for third generation services.

The iPad’s map application works exactly the way it does on the iPhone, except that it is clearly on a much larger screen, and it works a lot faster and comes with a terrain option. The iPad map application also comes with a compass, and offers high definition street view.
