car gps unit

There is about a 3 mph difference between my auto speedometer, and my GPS unit. How accurate is the GPS unit

3 mph hour difference is with in normal limits. Neither the car or the gps is 100%. Car can be affect by tire wear and size of tires. Even gear wear can change it. With the gps there is lag time to the satellite. Only the military gps are pin point accurate

I am looking to buy a GPS unit for my husband as a birthday gift. We live in Athens, Greece but we want the language to be in English. I am looking for something with Bluetooth and MP3 compatibility. I have heard mixed reviews about Tom Tom and Garmin - any suggestions? (Budget roughly 400 Euro) Thanks

I am a very regular visitor to Greece, and I have considered to bring my Tom-Tom with me. After contacting Tom-Tom on Internet several times, I learned that there are still no maps available for Greece. Poor performance for a perfect GPS in most of Europe's countries.
During cab trips from Athens airport to the city, I questioned the driver about his 'MIO' GPS which seemed to work well. Maps are available for the Athens and Thessaloniki area only. Also 'GARMIN' is offering same.
Both give you the choice of language; English is always included.
I guess it will take many years before maps for the mainland & the islands will become available.

the top of the line portable one I'm looking at is a mere 600 bucks and it offers a ton more features and better looking maps than the factory option, making me think the auto maker should stick to making cars and not GPS units.

still, I like how its cleanly integrated into the car, the portable mounts on the windshield and looks a bit tacky.

the factory also costs 2,000 dollars.

I would definitely go for the portable gps system because you can transfer it to different cars and if you say it's that much nicer, isn't it better to save yourself over one grand for something that might look what you think is tacky?? Besides, gps systems are becoming really popular so I highly doubt if your gonna be the only one. My dad has a portable one and he loves it cuz he has two cars and my mom has her car too. Anyways...don't waste your money for a smooth line. :D

I want to have a GPS Unit for my car for driving direction, but also would like to be able to use it on my bike when I go on long cycling routes. Does anyone know of models that can be used for both, and also a mount for the bike?

Garmin is a best gps system, Garmin has a simple controls - simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, has a turn-by-turn voice directions, 2-D or 3-D maps and more feature.

I've been researching GPS car units. Is there any one particular that stands out?

Magellan is the far best product out there. I do allot of hiking, hunting, boating, flying, and traveling. I purchased the Magellan meridian Gold. I purchased the streets software. I have about $400.00 in mine and it mounts in the car, its portable, its water proof and it floats. It one of the best investments I've made. Magellan is a great company for tech support also...
