The Garmin Nuvi is awesome

Could you please recommend a GPS navigation navigator car accessory device that has the best, clearest directions? I rode with a friend who had a TomTom or "Tom Tom" 3.5" unit. It was satisfactory, except for the times when there were several exit lanes --- the TomTom GPS, imho, wasn't clear enough in pointing out which exit lane to take.
I see that there is a Garmin Nuvi with a "Lane Assist" feature. This unit is relatively expensive, however. If you have this GPS, could you please provide a review? I almost bought a Canadian Tire sale GPS, but was wary because there was a "no refund" policy if the box was opened. I later learned that this brand required a $40 annual renewal fee. That would have been a nasty surprise.
Thank you, everybody.
Also, how does a GPS compare to Google Maps?
what you buy depends on your ability to understand the information presented to you.
Some people have not been paying attention to the instructions and have gotten their cars wreck and them hurt or worse. I know of two people who messed up at the same intersection in a six month period, turning short of the road and ending up on a third rail electrified train track (Metro-North RR Harlem line); fortunately, they got out of their cars before the train hit it.

I currently use the big bulky tomtom go 300 and it always seems to loose connection and last time I dealt with tomtom customer service they didn't give me customer service.... instead I got grief and had to end up buying a new sd card and maps.
I want to go for the right nav software for the nokia n95. So far I know of co pilot and mobile navigator 6. Are there any other which are free to run like tomtom? I think the nokia n95 runs on symbian or something .. not too sure.
I am in the UK. Regards
Yes, N95 is Symbian OS 9.1, I have Tom Tom 6 with maps for smartphone on my N73, I got the software for free lol...
If you don't like Tom Tom, then you should use Route 66, thats pretty good as well, but I think you should use an external GPS receiver instead of the built-in GPS in N95, b/c I've heard that the built-in GPS is only good for the Nokia smart2go software that they have on their website for N95...
If you have further questions or want Tom Tom 6 or Route 66 email me I can get it for you...
p.s. Hows the 5mp camera?

Hi I am about to purchase a gps car navigation unit, basically I am driving from MO to Orlando and back and think it would be better than mapquest. Of these two that I mentioned above, what would you recommend and what are the pros and cons if you have experienced any? The Magellan and Garmin are almost a hundred bucks cheaper but the Tomtom seem to have more features , I don't know! But these are the three cheapest models out there. Thanks people.
You can compare those three devices side-by-side here:
http://www.gpsreview.net/compare-gps/?gp s=603-990-962
Of those three, I would eliminate the StreetPilot i3 from your list. It has a very small screen, doesn't use a touch screen display, and doesn't include pre-installed maps. It is the oldest device of the three you have mentioned and wouldn't be the best pick.
Of the remaining two, here are the primary differences. The TomTom ONE includes maps of Canada while the RM 2000 only has the US 48 states. The TomTom ONE is also a smaller size and weight, yet retains the same size screen so it will be more portable.
The TomTom ONE also has more advanced routing features such as advanced planning and the ability to create itineraries and save them for future use.
Here is a review of the TomTom ONE:

And here is info on the RM 2000:

Hi, Im living in auckland and Im planing to buy a car GPS system.
I will go buy a GPS receiver with NZmap soon.
What Im wondering is,
1. Do we pay any fee for the navigation service?
2. After buying the gps, Is there anything costs me further?
Please help. Will be waiting for your response.
I have a Garmin and love it. There is no add'l fee after buying it. You can take it all over the world and load additional maps by updating thru your pc via USB cable.
PS-I used to get lost in a pay toilet but not any more.
