car navigation gps unit

I was given a TOMTOM ONE 3rd Edition for Christmas and want to exchange it for a Navigon 2100. Which one is better?

Garmin makes a number of GPS receivers in that price range, but they aren't really intended for automotive use, and in particular don't have the extensive databases that most automotive units now have. The database, and the large screen required to make it useful, multiply the cost.

Why do GPS navigation units built in to cars cost thousands extra, when you can buy a GPS navigation unit from circuit city or something that only costs a couple hundred? Is there a big difference in something I'm not seeing?

the hand held ones are actually much better with more features and better accuracy
people only buy the built in ones because they are BUILT-IN and most people don;t even bother to research
so in essence ignorance

I really need your help in finding a car navigation system other than OnStar that is easy to install, doesn't require a lot of modification of the car, and whether or not it needs a subscription is not important since I'll take it either way. I really just want something in my car that has easy to navigate maps that I can use to find my way. Or where you can type in where you need to get to and the video guides you to your destination. Hopefully this makes sense.

Doint buy nextar I payed $300 a few months ago and now it's not working Buy tomtom or models between $400-$500

Depending on your situation, i went out and bought one and now it sits in the cupboard, i thought i would use it but once the novelty wore off, i never use it.
I just use the street sign`s and get out the good old directory.
but like i said depending on your situation if your constantly on the road looking for new places then yeah, but usally for everyday use nah. plus if you really want one later then just buy after market one.
