I know this might sound crazy, but maybe something that could be removed when he gets older? I'm so afraid of all the child abductions, etc.
My son is too young for a cell phone. Plus an abductor could throw it away. This would sure be a great invention if someone could do it.
A gps chip that is implanted below the skin?
Not possible right now. GPS is hard enough to pick up outside, it is just getting to the point where it is usable inside to the point where it can tell you the correct building. Skin contains a lot of water, water blocks GPS signals very well. Even if power wasn't an issue and under the skin GPS system just wouldn't work as soon as you went inside.
GPS itself doesn't need much power but GPS only knows where it is, it doesn't tell anything else where it is. So you would need a cell phone type link to pass that information back to your computer. The power requirements for that are far too much to implant.
And to be completely honest unless there is a reason you think someone would want to kidnap your child (in which case go to the police) you're being a little paranoid. Child abductions are hugely overblown by the media because they get the viewing numbers up, you'd be protecting your child far more by making sure they know how to cross the street safely than by tracking their movements.

I am looking for an implantable GPS device I can put inside of my child.
What is a good product? Where can I get one? How much does it cost?
I am finding a lot of articles on the net about a product like this, but im not finding anything about a specific product that can be purchased.
I don't think it will be very safe to implant a whole GPS transmitter in your body, especially a kid. Plus, changing the battery, will be a big problem.
You probably read about RFID tags. Those are used now to ID animals, in case they are lost, but they can't transmit information on where they are. Those are safe and a few brave adults implant them as well.

I'm taking a marketing class and my group has to come up with a marketing strategy to sell this product. So i need your honest opinion as if you were to buy a pair of nikes with a gps tracker for your child ages 2-6 years old. what do you think and how can we modify it for poeple? Thank you so much for answering

You can't answer your own question.
The main problem with a product like this isn't so much on the marketing to get it into the hands of people. The main issue is getting something like this into the minds of people. People already have a hard time thinking about putting their children in public schools for fear of them getting hurt, maimed or abused in some way. It would raise more fear in the minds of an average parent to see a commercial showing some madman taking a small child only to have the shoes the child is wearing save their kid.
The true way to reach a parent is to tug at their heart strings gently but keep it soft and semi-poetic, while still making a lasting impact on them. The easiest way to do this would be to market exclusively through target interest groups established through online polling and or direct mail campaigns. Do a slideshow or (if your budget allows this) a commercial or animation showing several kids in a mall store or at a park, one or two of them are wandering around without the shoes on and one or two of them with the shoes on.
The parents would have to have a small module, maybe software that interacted with their cell phone that had a restricted id cluster that only recognized their particular child's shoe info.
Anyways, the children with the specialized shoes would start walking out of the store with the other (non-special-shoe wearing) kids and a small chirp from the cell phone would alarm the parents that their kids were leaving their perimeter. The parents would be seen walking up behind their kids and saying something like: "Hey, let's try on these pants before you go..."
Parents would look at the shoes and know other uses for them but you wouldn't be attacking them with a blatantly upsetting ideal that would hurt their heart.
I won't waste all your time telling you how bad of a product idea this is because if you marketed it through the right private channels and not through a huge "mass-brand-appeal" kind of campaign, it could be quite popular. Also, I used to have those kinds of assignments myself when I was in school. I hated them but this seems like a pretty smart project.
Good luck.

I am for tracking units, especially children. These units can be used for vehicles, the elderly, valuable equipment, kids, etc. Do you think $249.00 is too much to pay? Would you pay $249.00? Unit can do much more than track but keep tabs incase the child wanders a certain distance from home and instant text message sent to cell phone. I am thinking of selling these units and wanted to see what others thought of the price, etc. Thank you in advance for your thoughts!
I think $249 is reasonable. I've seen the GPS watches before and thought they were ingenious...those go for about $250. I've also seen other devices that go for almost $500..
Nextel offers a really cool GPS tracking system that you can set up to send you a text message to let you know when they get to school..etc..I personally use this service.
So.. yes, I would pay $249 I think my loved ones are worth it..and it's a competitive price
When it came down to it, which would be more important; your child's safety or their privacy?
Curvy... while I might not agree with all of your statement, I do agree that some parents will try to use it as a method of supervision rather than one of emergency... i.e. letting them run all over hell's half acre without keeping an eye on them and using the excuse "Well, they're being tracked anyway." Good point.
Yes I would be willing and have thought about looking into it ever since an issue with Haylee that you know all about.
There safety is more important.

Lauren says GPS assists the North American Amber Alert program by making it easier for parents and law authorities to find a child — before the child abduction Amber Alert is issued. In this case, she says, an Amber Alert wouldn’t be needed because of an SOS function that allows parents to listen to what is going on around their child.
