I have a Compact Flash GPS card which works fine in my PDA. I thought that if I put it into a USB card reader (into the CF slot, obviously) and plugged the reader into my laptop, then Windows would prompt me for a driver and the rest would be simple. It doesn't work. Windows does not prompt for a driver - in fact it doesn't seem to 'see' the GPS unit at all. Why not? Is there a way to use this card with my laptop? Thank you.
The card reader is primarily designed to read CF memory cards I would suspect, it won't read anything else

Does anyone know where i can get a preloaded compact flash card with UK maps?
That is something that would come from the GPS manufacturer, or at least they would recommend where to get one.

Hi, If I buy an ipaq with the idea of hooking up a gps compact flash adapter to it does it make a difference between type 1 and type 2?
The adapter is a type 1 adapter. There are 2 models of Ipaqs that I am looking at. One has a type 1 and the other has a type 2. Is there a difference in speed between 1 and 2?
Type II is faster, however there is a Type III and a Type IV now. Yes there is a speed difference between all of them, Check and see what your pda will support and pick the faster one. CF cards are cheap now.
I am setting up a gps (tom tom) program in my pda and thought i might user the expansion slot that is comact flash II.
Sure. the main difference between CF-I and CF-II is the thickness of the card.
