i was planning on buying a used eagle gps for $30
is this a good brand
i was planning on doing a lot of geocaching, but i dont want to buy it if it was a crappy brand
its the best price i can find, but is it worth buying?
I know Lowrance made a unit called the Eagle a long time ago. I would recommend against purchasing this one unless you're going to geocache only a little bit. Not many people use Lowrances, and most of them say there is a steeper learning curve to using them than with other units.
If you want to geocache on the cheap, go for either a Garmin eTrex H for $80 or an eTrex Venture HC for $115. The key is getting a unit that does all you want and then some. You will also want to make sure you get a unit that connects to the computer. That makes it easier to load a bunch of caches on your unit. Much faster than manually entering everything and possibly making a mistake.
Spend more money up front. You will be glad you did. I bought a Magellan eXplorist 100 for $100, and I had to enter coordinates manually and there weren't any maps. Less than a year later, I upgraded to an eXplorist 400 for $250 so I could use maps and turn-by-turn routing, plus upload caches from the computer. Now I wish I got a color-screened unit instead of the monochrome eX400. Now you can get an eXplorist 500LE for $130, but I no longer recommend Magellan because of their lousy customer service.
You can get the Eagle for $30 just to get started and see if you enjoy geocaching, but if you enjoy caching, I'm sure you will want something better before long.

Eagle 500c,Says gps not responding.the gps is not even a year old,It worked great normally takes 2-3 mins to connect to the satellites and no problem.now it just says gps not responding all connections are good, fuse is good, done soft and hard reboot nothing helps?
The internal battery may be bad or the antenna or wire may be bad.
Best would be to return for repair. Send the entire unit and cables.

Dual-beam Switchfire Sonar with precision 20-degree beam and wider 60-degree beam; view beams separately, side-by-side, or blended together

Compact chartplotter/fishfinder with 4-inch grayscale display, DualBeam sonar with 2400 Watts PTP power output.
Is it fixable by myself? Eagle charges a flat rate of $150 for any repair plus $12.50 S/H. A new one would cost $350.
Thanks

Can you diagnose where the problem is coming from? If so and it falls within your level of expertise go for it. But if not, and if you can afford a new one buy it for it'll have more bells and whistles than what you have now.
Is this true for phones that don't have GPS applications and that you can't use for GPS?
A woman was once lost in a blizzard and they were not able to locate her position from her cellular phone quickly. Because of that, a cell phone now has to be able to automatically report its position when making a 911 call. Some phones have a GPS receiver built in for that purpose even if they do not have maps and location services available to the user.
I am considering buying this for my boat as my old fish finder died on me. Does it show boat speed? How are the graphics? Is this a good bargin in terms of price? Personal expierence a plus!
here's the factory web site it tells everything about your fish finder.
