garmin gps car charger

This is the one I'm looking at buying...would it come with a car charger? I'm confused

Yup... all the Garmin GPS units come with a car charger... but the 200 series does not come with a HOME charger... if you want that you will have to purchase it separately.

It may be necessary to reset the gps. YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR USER DATA AND MAY NEED TO RE-DOWNLOAD UPDATES! If you press the bottom right corner on the screen... then turn the unit on... it should prompt you to reset.

Will any harm be done to to the Garmin GPS or the charger if I use an adapter with an output of .8 amp?
The car charger that comes with the Garmin has an output of 1 amp which I plug into the adapter, and then into a house outlet. Appreciate any avice

The amp rating is the maximum that the charger can handle without overheating or burning up. If your Garmin demands 1 amp, and your charger can only safely supply 0.8 amp, then it will overheat. Chargers do not push out amps, they only supply amps as demanded by the device being charged.

Now, I do happen to own a Garmin nuvi 200, although I don't have a wall charger for it. But I do have a USB cable that I use to recharge it, and the maximum supply rating for USB power is 0.5 amp. If my Garmin were to exceed that, it would pull down the operation of my other devices on my USB port, which it doesn't.

So, just from personal experience, I'd say that you should be able to safely charge your Garmin with a charger rated at 0.8 amp. Addtionally, as an engineer, we design a 50% safety margin into electronic ratings, which means that 0.8a can actually go as high as 1.2a. So you're good to go.

Ive lost my car charger for my gamin 265w.
Would getting a generic mini usb car charger do the job?

I also have a usb inverter that plugs into the car with usb ports on it. Would that work w/ a standard usb cable?

i have a t-mobile dash and a garmin nuvi and i noticed they both have the same charging plug.
the dash's ac adaptor says output: 5v---1a LPS

and the charger for the nuvi says output: 4.9~5.25vdc/1a

will it damage my phone if i try to charge it?

same votage and current ratings on the chargers so it will work as long as it fits and the polarity is the same at the plug to the phone(the outside is either +or - on both)make sure you check that or it will damage it.
