Garmin GPS Software ?
Garmin GPS

I want to buy a Garmin GPS system by auction.
It says that it does not come with software.
So Im wondering, will it work in my car if i don't have the software?

Its not new, its been previously used.

Please help!
Thanks.

Are you looking at something like the Garmin 18USB, which plugs into your laptop? If so, you will need mapping software for it to work.

How can I update my map software for my Garmin GPS system?
sary679

If you are talking about the road data, you want City Navigator NT. There are a couple of options. You can check with Garmin to see if you are eligible for free map updates at https://my.garmin.com/maps/updates.htm

If you are not, they will point you toward the download, DVD, or SD/microSD card versions of City Navigator NT. The update costs between $70-100.

Will Garmin topo map software work with Magellan GPS units ?
sary680

Looking to buy a handheld GPS unit for geocaching. Considering Magellan Titon 1500 and Garmin Colorado 400. Question - will the Garmin topo Canada software work with the Magellan GPS, or is the software somehow proprietary, such that it will ONLY work with Garmin ?

It's proprietary, go with the Colorado, I'm looking for a new unit right now for caching. Considering the GPSmap60 but more and more thinking I should just go for the colorado, but I already have two pda's that I could use to go paperless.

Can I use maps other than Garmin in a Garmin GPS?
sary681

I am considering getting a Garmin GPS, but it seems they only want you to use their own software, and it's not cheap. What about other GPS software/maps? Will they work in a Garmin unit?

Get a Garmin. Its the best and the most accurate. Garmin pre- installed maps would be ok for two years without an update. I saw a 2110 update in walmart for $45 compare to $79 Magellan map.
Other GPS maps won't work in Garmin so as Garmin maps can't be installed in other brands.I have 2 Garmins and 2 Magellans.

What is the best GPS navigation software for the Blackberry Bold 9000 - Garmin or TeleNav?
sary678

I'd to invest in turn-by-turn GPS navigation software for use whilst driving. I don't want to invest in a separate GPS unit (cables, charging, updates... yuck) but am unsure as to the merits of the two competing software packages on the market. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks!

I know that they both use the same atlas, so as far as one having a better map, then they are the same.

Why dont you try out google maps, its a free download.
