Is this one ok or what about the TomTom one? I am buying as a christmas gift, but really dont have any ideas about them...thanks
My mother who is 77 bought a tomtom one
and used it to get from Florida to ohio all by herself. I used it for one trip and liked it so much I bought one of my own. Great and simple to use
This is a highly recommend GPS unit. Compared to others like TomTom the Garmin uses Navteq data which is considered better for the US than the ...
For the price it is pretty good, economical GPS system. The only thing I dont like is that sometimes it puts you on a longer route than it should.
I got mine for under $300 from a best buy sale so make sure you dont spend too much if you do buy it, you could also check ebay.
Fits the mini USB port on your GPS
For use with any 12V lighter, will not put your GPS in PC sync mode like some other cables
Excellent quality cable manufactured by MFX2
I live in california and sometimes it gets really hot.. Is it ok to leave my garmin gps inside my vehicle? I keep it in my glovebox away from direct sunlight.
Your owners manuel will tell you the temperatures that the unit can withstand. I'm sur eit's durable and can take a lil whileinthe sun.... but don;t leave it on the dash at the airport parking lot during the summer, if you know what I mean. (depends on where you live)
but your ownsers manuel will give you the temperature that the unit can withstand.... it'll be just fine in the running the days errands but put it away during work (if parked in the sun for long periods).... just read the manuel
easy to carry for on the go life style

I'm on a tight budget. So yeah , I'm not wanting all the fancy stuff. I just need a reliable GPS that can get me from point A to B.
Please help,
Thanks again
Since you said reliable, skip Magellan. Their equipment is decent, but as soon as something goes wrong with it and you need technical support, you're on your own. Their support is outsourced to India, and while they are polite, they only read scripts and are not very knowledgeable. If I were you, I would be looking at Garmin or TomTom. Between the TomTom ONE and Garmin nuvi 200 you list, the TomTom is the better deal since they are equivalent units and the TomTom is cheaper. The C330 is decent, but it is fairly large.
I plan to buy a Garmin portable GPS system for my car. I'd like get the best bang for my buck so plz let me know which of the two you would perfer - the Nuvi200 (sleek, slim design) at $300 or the C340 (bulky but speaks street names) for $350.
I'm a grad student (aka not rolling in dough) but would like to know how much the street-name-specific feature ("turn right on elm street in 500ft") would help. If it is that helpful, I'd go for it. I am in Austin, TX if it matters. Plus I get lost quite easily.
Cheers.
I would go for the extra bucks for the Nuvi that speaks the street names. Shop on Amazon, you may be able to get it a little cheaper.

Car Charger Vehicle Power Cable for Garmin Nuvi GPS By Chargercity ...
I ordered the Car Charger since the one that came with my Nuvi a couple of years ago became worn out and broke. The new car charger I ordered doesn’t allow you to use the gps while it’s plugged into the lighter whereas my original did! I plugged it in my car for an hour to charge but the battery was still low. Now I have to hunt for another car charger that will allow me to use the gps while plugged in and charging.
