gps car alarm system

I just bought a portable gps, an InVion touchscreen. Do most people leave it in their cars, or do you take it with you when you go? My car has an alarm, but I would hate for someone to break my window to steal the gps system. (idk if it matters, but I have an '08 scion tC)
I just was wondering if it is common to leave it in the car or not, I'm not saying that I do what everyone else does. Grow up CJ.

last year over 850,000 gps's were stolen out of peoples cars. and when you take it off the thing that sticks to the window and put it in your glovebox theives will know its in there cuz they see the suction stand. take it out everytime you park. also during the summer if its in their for a while its not good for it either

this morning i found my car with the drivers window shattered and my tomtom gps stolen. my alarm system didn't go off. so i guess what needs to be added to my alarm is a motion detector for if someone breaks the glass and reaches inside. any recommendations ?
i did check on google they do make them but i just wanted to know which one is good and worth it. and they werent that much money

There's not really a "motion sensor" for a car alarm system, however it should have gone off when the window was shattered. It could be that your alarm system is only for tampered handles/locks. My brothers goes off if you look at it funny, and that's not a joke. It just depends on what you have. I'm not aware of any system that protects shattered windows, but you should research Google or something. They can be a tad expensive.


3-20-09: OK well I looked, and when it comes to these things, the one that would be best is one of the more expensive ones. It will save you money in the long run, since you won't have to replace any more GPS's.

my boyfriend just had his car broken into. keep in mind that he had a 400$ alarm system that didnt go off. he has a small remote that he keeps in his pocket, and if someone breaks into the car it vibrates.if you use a key to try to get it, the alarm with go off. they stole $5,100 in golf equipment alone, a gps system, xm radio, a $250 mp3 player, and a TON more...the cop said that the theif took a box battery and some how connected it to the frame of the car and drowned out the alarm system?? how does this happen? whats the point of a alarm system?? the car was locked when he got outside, and nothing was broken...he even looked for a slim jim mark by the window. there was nuthing.

Yes, He shorted the system and the fuse probably blew, Thus the alarm wouldent work.

Installed Python alarm system/remote starter in my 2004 Camry. Also, had them throw in a GPS unit. Unfortunately, I had it installed at Circuit City and now they are closing. They aren't doing any more car work or installations either. My car wouldn't shift out of park, so when I used the push button override I was able to get my car home, but now the ac won't work, dash lights, and several electronic features. The guy who installed said I probably just blew a fuse. The guys at Toyota fixed it and said it was a few wires that didn't get put back together, but now 3 weeks later .... same problems. It wouldn't shift out of park, and now it won't even start. Circuit City has not confirmed that they are even going to do anything about it because they're going out of business. Any ideas?

remove the alarm.

It has no alarm system, like if I unlock it with the key after locking it with the fob the alarm wont go off. I want to get the key copied and idk if I need to do the chip copied also. The car has like no options.(like leather, gps, etc)

If the key has a chip, you can buy another key of the right part number, then there's a routine you have to do to get the car to allow the new key .. Should be detailed in the owner's manual somewhere.
