With the current abduction and school incidents, I guess Im a little paranoid of my son's surroundings whether he is in school, playground or traveling with me and my wife. I have trained him on how to use our home phone and cell phone since he was 6 years old. He knows the do's and don'ts on how to use the phone especially in school. With the GPS technology I will be able to track down his whereabouts if I could not find him. Of course I will respect his privacy too. My biggest concern is that I want to make that he can contact his family in case of an emergency or he can call 911. I know that he is responsible enough but I want to get another opinion about this. Thanks for the input.
this is a personal choice for the parent. only you can make this decision. do not let fear rule your life and please don't teach your child to live in fear. teach him what to do in case of emergency.

I have one cigarette lighter in my car, and both my GPS and cell phone need to be plugged into a charger at all times. Is there any way to do this?
My car is a 1995 Ford Taurus, with one power outlet.
Do I need to buy a newer car? Do newer cars have more than one power outlet?
At most car parts stores, you can get a gizmo that plugs into the lighter and has 2 or 3 outlets. costs less than $10.00
Walmart and stores like probably have them as well.

In a phone such as the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 (AT&T), which has GPS, I understand that if you want to use it for turn-by-turn directions and so on, you have to add a service such as AT&T Navigator. But if you just wanted to know, for example, where you were, where the different directions are, do you need to buy and software/services, or does that work out of the box? Thanks!
On some phone (like the ones that run Windows CE, etc) you can download the application and data to the machine but you can't do it for all GPS phones.

Most TomTom/Garmin/Magellan models fit great! *The MT5000 WILL NOT fit TomTom GPS units that have a protuding rear speaker.
nGroove design allows the MT5000 to fit into the thin grooves found in autos, planes, boats motorcycles
Requires NO suction cups, NO clips, NO screws, NO adhesives or glue! Inserts into front loading CD player slot, where device controls are easily accessible by the driver
Universal Car Mount / Cradle / Holder firmly mounts cell phones, satellite radios, GPS units, MP3 players and more!
The MT5000-D: Mountek's 4th revision of its popular CD Slot Mount. Now with a rubber dipped nGroove blade for better grip!
i was told of a free web site that u can enter ur cell number and track it through GPS pings... What site is it?
In order to gps track anything (phone, vehicle, etc) it must be registered in your name to be legal. I would be wary of scams associated with this type of google search/internet search.
Is there added data-transfer costs associated with A-GPS phones?
OK, A-GPS (assistted global positioning system) is more reliable (usually within 5 meters-10 meters) because that service uses seperate servers to calculate where you are on the earth, and sends it back to your phone. That means, the phone you carry, or the nav unit you have in the car uses less processing power... which frees up more memory for other things.
As far as the cost involved... E911 location is free from all cellular carriers, in case of an emergency. It's an FCC rule. That's why you are paying the Universal Service Charge (based on a percentage of your monthly bill, and the E911 charge also on your monthly bill) If you're wondering about getting directions and traffic updates, all those things are different based on who your carrier is, and the type of navigation service plan you have on your cell phone.
If you're looking for a break on the monthly bill, check to see if the company you work for is eligable for any company dicounts through your cell phone carrier. You never know til you ask.
