GPS coordinates?

I've got a garmin etrex GPS device. I'm just playing about with it and I thought i'd see if I could transfer teh coordinates of the device and display its where-abouts using an online map website such as local.live.com. So, I ensure the GPS is giving me the WGS-84 coordinates, then type those coordinates into local.live.com and it places my location about 50 miles away in northhampton.

What am I doing wrong??

Wild guess: Longitude co-ordinate is wrong? That would put you the wrong side of 0 degree line by a certain amount.

I have a Garmin and I changed it to Ordnance Survey units. Much more useful!

Can anyone provide me with some GPS coordinates or locations for Santa Barbara salt water fishing?

Im taking out my brother's 42' boat this weekend out of Santa Barbara harbor and I need to know some good spots. Looking for Halibut but at this point I'm down for anything. If you have GPS coordinates for any bottom structures, or just a hot spot that has proven itself, I would be INCREDIBLY grateful to you. Any tips would be appreciated, and thanks.

santa barbara, ca? possibly... i believe my dad knows that area fairly well, he should, he's been fishing the ventura and santa barbara area my entire life and then some...
he sez:
west end of santa cruz,
sandy areas around santa rosa esp. the sandspit,
yellow bank, s cruz,
chinese harbor, smugglers, s cruz,
some sandy, gravelley coves, far side s cruz,
the entire sb county coastline. he says he has gotten some decent ones off the cemetery just below the pier.
take us with you. we'll show you exactly where we have gotten them in the past although, it's been a while. it's just too expensive any more to go out on the sport boats.
live squid, anchovies, 'dines, even white croaker (tom cod/ronkies) and queenfish (seatrout).

I have GPS coordinates for a place, is there a way I can use the Internet to find where that place is?

I understand how Global Positing System works. What I would like to know is there a way normal people can find with the GPS coordinates point to. The military, and all emergency offices(Police, Sherriffs, highway patrol and fire departments) have them. Is it available for non-emergency personnel?

Google maps supports that.

What are the GPS coordinates of the destination?

A person stands at N51 02.659, W114 03.781 and then walks on a bearing 338 degrees for 1,340 metres (4,395 feet). What are the GPS coordinates of the final destination?

Isn't this a straightforward vector addition problem? Break down the walk into longitude and latitude components, add them to the old GPS readings, and you get the new GPS reading. Does your class take the Earth's curvature into account, that this is more of a problem for you? At this level of accuracy, I don't think the difference is going to be a problem.

In short, let us know where you're stuck, so we can just help you over that part.

Where can I find GPS Coordinates for county highpoints?

I am looking for a complete list of GPS coordinates for county highpoints in the state of Michigan. I have not been able to find any so far. Please help.

Topozone is very easy to use. Type in a place in Michigan and it will give you the elevation, latitude and longitude.

  • macosxhints.com - Store GPS coordinates in URLs in Address Book

Here's a tip on saving GPS coordinates in Address Book. First, it's lame that GPS coordinates are not a standard field type. Often a mailing address used for GPS will miss the mark by a mile, literally. For some contacts, I use Google Earth to drop a pin on the exact spot, then copy a URL which I save in Address Book.

The URL will look like this:
