gps equipment

I am looking for a GPS equipment that is able to determine land area. If any one knows the make/ and model of one let me know.

The Garmin GPSMap 60 will do this. I think most other Garmin models will too. Go to their website, select 'Specs' and look for the feature "area calculation"

It wasn't reported because it simply didn't happen.
Such a tilt would have a tremendous effect on everything on the planet so you'd have other problems then just some shutdown gps equipment.
Also the day/night cycle would change quite noticeably for everyone owning a window.

i require a handheld unit, which will give me locations to within 5 metres if possible.also transmitters small enough to fit to a cat collar.i require all information to be received by my hand held unit, and not to a computer, or a subscription service. etc.IS THE TECHNOLOGY OUT THERE.HELP.

The idea sounds like a winner, but since GPS relies on satellites, I don't see how you can use it without a subscription service. There must be something like it though, as wildlife biologists track wild animals that have large ranges. The GPS tracking devices listed on the Web are mostly for large animals like cattle, elephants and deer. The two Websites below do offer some products that they claim work for pets, but I have no idea how practical they really are. If you find a product that is reasonable and would work with cats, please let us know about it. Good question.

I purchased this gps as a gift for my boyfriend. Other than what comes in the box with the gps, do I need to purchase anything else? I want him to open the box and be able to use it immediately. I am not necessarily looking to purchase addition items for luxury or fun... I want to be sure a that a useful add-on or electronic type component won't be missing. Any ideas or suggestions?

you might want to check the box and make sure it comes with a cord to connect to your computer for updates--most units do come with the cable- some don't. you will want to update your maps, points of interest etc and you'll need that cable to do it....

The only thing that I know for sure is that your FMS must be approved for GPS approaches. I thought that you also need some kind of annunciator in the cockpit telling you that the GPS has gone into the more precise approach mode. I fly a Lear 55C with dual UNS 1-Ds.

To my knowledge, one approved GPS unit (UNS FMS is fine). I fly the Citation XL with 1-Cs. The vital thing is that you have RAIM facility at APPR availabilty upon the commencement of the approach. I believe if you select DATA and then NEXT, it should bring up RAIM PREDICT as an option in one of the DATA screens, and you can select any time for the RAIM to predict the availabilty. There should be an annunciator that tells you that you are on a GPS APPR. On the XL, it is the only time the FD is in LNAV and VNAV mode with APPR Annunciated.
