I cannot seem to find, what I would consider, the right product for my non-motorized fleet of courier vehicles.
What I am trying to find is a magnetized GPS receiver that is small, discreet, and requires no ignition/battery hookups. I need a real-time tracking system which remains inactive within a designated "fenced" location unless I require an on-demand update of the unit's location. Once the fence has been crossed, I would like the unit to fully activate with real-time and automatic tracking as an anti-theft device.
I know that GPS tracking is relatively new, but I can not find any product or service that combines all of these needs together.
Do you have any suggestions?
I assume you are talking about GPS on bicycles, golf carts, or similar devices.
If these are your employee you could require Nextel devices to be carried with them for common business communications. There are a number of GPS options available for Nextel. Some work well, some don't; largely dependent on the quality of coverage in your work area.
In coverage is spotty, you are off the interstate or very rural then you will need an actual GPS device hardwired to the vehicle and it will require 12 volts, installation, etc.
It has been my experience that most of the value of GPS tracking for employees comes from behavior changes when they know they are being monitored. It is not nearly as valuable to play "catch and scold" as it is for them to know you can document all their movements.
Good luck

My company is implementing the verizon workforce management system. It is a gps tracking system through our company issued cell phones. Is there a way to block the gps tracking with a jammer of some sort but still have the phone work?
I don't take kindly to having my every move tracked by my employer but before I up and quit I would like to know if there are any other options.
I am not a slacker so don't get the wrong idea, its just principle for me.
Absolutely useless answer to me steve. Please refer to the question when answering questions.
In case anyone else finds this question, I found my own answer, here is what I recieved as an email response from the company below.
Yes the high powered GPS jammer would only disable the location tracking of Verizon Work Force Manager while still allowing cell phone / txt messages in and out.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Your follow up is correct - and I would agree with you. Employers are invading privacy of employees by installing such devices on your phone. You could simply leave the phone somewhere at the end of your work day - however even during your shift what you do on your own time (such as lunch) is really only your own business.
There are devices available that block the GPS tracking capability of the phone or vehicle. I saw several listings when doing a search but one that looked to have the most information was http://www.thesignaljammer.com/gps-jamme rs.html. They have the devices, a demo video, and even an article on how the device works.

I'm looking for an inexpensive solution to be able to track and locate a small fleet of trucks. We have Nextel i355 phones which I believe are GPS-enabled. We'd like to be able to locate and verify a truck's location via the internet. We do not need any ability to provide directions to the driver.
Any suggestions for me? Should I additionally post this message on a logistics board?
Thanks,
Walter

it all depends on how much money you want to invest, I have a feeling Nextel will be the most practical but if you do some research online and from the companies you can find out more information as to what will work for your budget.
