Which Black Friday Sale GPS is the best for Geocaching?

There is a Garmin Nuvi 200 for $97 at Walmart and a Magellan Roadmate 1200 at Target for about the same I think. Would either of these work for geocaching? Which would be better? I want to purchase this as a Christmas gift for my husband so that he and our boys can start geocaching! But, I'm pretty confused as to what GPS to get!

nv jack is correct. Neither of the GPS receivers you mention are suitable for caching. Both Garmin and Magellan (and one or two smaller companies) make hand held GPS receivers that can be used, and choice of manufacturer is a matter of personal preference. My choice is the Garmin 60 CSx, but at approximately $300, it is expensive for a first time unit. When you make your decision, here are some things to look for that will make the unit much more user friendly for caching: electronic compass (a must have for me), USB computer interface for downloading caches from your computer, water resistant/waterproof, rugged, sensitive receiver and antenna (for caching under heavy tree cover). A nice to have feature is the ability to accept a memory card so that maps can be loaded, and automatic routing to help you get to the general area of the cache is nice as well. There may be some sales around going into the holidays, but a quick check didn't turn up any super deals on any GPS receivers that I would choose. Keep shopping and keep my list of features in mind. Hope your husband and kids enjoy their new sport/hobby.

this is regarding a Gps unit that is on sale for $99. Model Visco Gps vsc-n530a. Is it a good deal, feedback?

Just wondering if anyone had problems with this item if they have purchased it already. its a Black friday special at the grocery store. Thanks for your help.

We bought a VSC N530A this weekend at Shaws, a New England-area supermarket, also for $99.99. This is our second GPS, and, so far we like it.

Our first GPS is a much more expensive hand-held by Garmin. The Garmin is much more robust, is waterproof, has many more features and the map data is more refined and detailed. On the other hand, the Garmin GPS has a much smaller screen, does not have a touch screen and, with the optional (but necessary) US driving atlas data, cost about 4 times the price. We bought the Garmin for hiking and kayaking as well as driving, and, for these uses, it's the right choice.

The Visco is a lower-grade item but seems perfectly adequate. We bought it because we wanted a unit that is optimized for driving and is cheap. This seemed to fit the bill.

All we were hoping for was a fairly big 3.5 in. screen that depicted the road in 3D, and we got it. But we have also been pleasantly surprised by the Visco's other aspects, including its ability to pick up GPS signals, its processing speed, its navigating features, its included map data (which, while not as good as Garmin MapSource, is still quite fine, at least between Boston & New York), and its extras, like a photo viewer, an mp3 player and an ebook reader.

I have seen a few critiques of this unit on other web sites. A glitch that I have noticed is a hardware-based "menu" button that doesn't seem to do anything. That caused me concern until I verified that, with the touch-screen buttons, I could access all the menus.

You can find faults with this unit, but for $100 you'll have the basic functions. If you have $300 or more to spend (and don't mind losing it through loss or theft), I'd suggest a higher-grade GPS. But if you are on a budget, I'd say that this unit is a good choice.

On black friday I have noticed alot of different GPS systems on sale .?

I have narrowed it down to about three different ones. the TOM TOM One 3rd edition. or the Magellan Maestro 3100. or the Garmin nuvi 200 . if anyone has any of these can you please let me know your reviews?
Thanks

I have been reviewing GPS reviews in my search for one this holiday season (a gift from me to me). The link below goes to a website with LOTS of reviews of GPS systems, including all three that you named.

By the way, I have absolutely no affiliation with the website (or any other website for that matter). It just has a boatload (or any other load) of information on GPS devices.

Good luck.

there is a GPS on sale for almost 200 it is nextar do you know about it?

2nd best in market now. and good price. go for it.

Do not buy it online, never buy electronics online.
